Preparing to Lock Horn* With the Kclton School in a Spelling Dec. ! 1 11 our rounds last week we caino to the school taught by .Mr. J. T. Fowler, more familiarly known as "Boss Fowler." We have been anxious to visit soino of the country sehools for a long time, and so we pulletl rein and stopped, Mr. Fowler invited us into the school room, we entered and received u general introduction to the school composed of u goodly number of the lads and lasses . of the community. They were bright, ; rosy-eheekcd nnd happy looking flii 1 - | dren, ages ranging from ~> or 0 to 18; years. They appeared to be studious, J and not at all disconcerted by the | presence of strangers. Mr. Fowler is an excellent teacher, and has hi> pupils well under control, he has his rules and insists upon the scholars obeying them to tho minutest detail, and this they do cheerfully, consequently everything works harmoniously and without discord. Mr, Fowler is kind, considerate and patient, and is untiring in his efforts to advance his scholars in their studies, atul he has by this means gained the confidence, respect atul love of his school, from tho smallest to the largest scholars. When we entered we found Mr. J. G. Farr inside, we left liiin early in the morning, and lie had decided to spend the day at this fine little school while Mr. Richard Farr and T took returns at .Vdainshurg. The Auditor had , been assisting Mr, Fowler wi h hi* j school, but tho exercises of tho day 1 being about over on our arrival, lie Was buried in the pages of a bo k j from a popular author. Tho majority of the scholar* were i liujd up in a spelling class and tho ; batcher was putting them through a umv speller. Several little ripples of merri ueuO were caused w!ieu some word would travel through tin elu-s spella.i in every conceivable way except the right one. Mr. Fowler was pr.au ie* 1 I iug :u this new book, as it was very j likely it would be chosen by I\eit;,n. 1 We were requested to talk to the children after school closed, but this being a little out of our lino we respectfully declined, and tried to shoulder this little job off 011 the shoulders of our companion, more gifted in oratory, the Auditor, but lie would not hear to it, said he could : speak to a crowd of grown men but would have to prepare a week to address a school of children, so tho children were deprived the pleasure of a good laugh ut cither of us for the reuicuiuus lanure ?e wuiuu liiiety have made lu the attempt.
