The Seminary Commencement The commencement exercises of Clifford Seminary this year were very interesting throughout and will always be pleasantly remembered by all who attended. The exercises wore begun on Sunday with the baccalaureate sermon at the Presbyterian church by EeV. R. C. Held, I>. J)., of Columbia. There was quite a large congregation present to hear thodistinguished divine, who delivered an ablo and impressive discourse. The senior class occupied the front seat on the right and were visibly affected by the earnest exhortation of the ' preacher. H"is closing remarks were repleto with wholesome advice which cannot soon be forgotten by those who heard him. The concert In the opera house Momtay night was a decided success and a real musical treat. Every number wns admirably rendered and reflected credit On the performers. The tinging by Misses St;. Clair and Scofield was ,a charming .feature and very much appreciated by the audience. The tableau at the close of .'the concert \yas especially attractive; . The art exhibit at the Seminary Tuesday Afternoon was a magnificent display of artistic handiwork, and waft greatly admired by everybody. The specimens were all exceptionally floe. , The annua] address was delivered in th? onera house WnrinoHflav mom ing by Dr. McAllister of North Carolina instead of Dr. Watkins/who was prevented frorh being present, Although called on rather unexpectedly Dr. McAllister was equal to the emergency and entertained ;the audience with a fellcibioua speech on "Little Things." > He spoke nearly an hour and made a deep impression upon all present. At the conclusion of the addruss Dr. Clifford arose and tn a very feeling and impressive talk, presented the following young ladies With their diplomas.: Isabelle Davis, Anna Belle McAllister, Bessie Miller,-Lina Shaw and Bessie Smith. , These young ladies wero the recipients of a profusion of flowers from the audience. The "scarf faritasttcs" and reception at the Seminary Wednesday night was the last number on the program. There was a large crowd present and the fleeting hours wv.ro spent very pleasantlyThe past year has been a very successful one1 with the Seminary, and the management has every reason to be highly gratifled with the work accomplished. Many of fchs students left Thursday or (heir respective homes and the rest will go this week. They will be missed here very much and their departure is generally regretted.
