On Inst Friday afternoon, while on si spree .John Hay, it is claimed accidental!;, shot a i>istol off. which came very neai hitting Hones Vinson and John Gilc. Cullman. It was ulmut Wanton's store in novelty llat. Policeman Vinson up1 searedoji Use sceno and it was claim: ;! that the shot was accidental, Chief ot ]h)!ice Culp was up on the street. Ading-mayor Arthur heard the shot and infoamed Culp of it. Culp started down to the llat, I'av then gets up fix m thi front of Wanton's and goes inside, win a Culp got there Hay told him to come In. which Culp did, ami when up do enough to him, threw his arms around both of Hays and told him to consider himself under arrest. Then Vinson attempted to take hold of him and Hay shot him, the liall going through one I. g and imbedded itself in the other, where it still is. Vinson then .struck Hay one or two blows with his club. Hav was finally disarmed by the assistance of M'itll'IPu .mil I V <<:.<! ' .. were called upon by the police, and carvied l? jail, where lie stayed until next day when he was released by paying forty dollars. Vinson went to Dr. Hamilton's ofliee where he was examined and treated, and we are glad to state is doing very well. Mr. Hay is well known m Union, lie is the only man that we know of that swappers up and down the streets of Union with two forty-four or forty-live calibre pistols buckled around liini as if he was in some border town ? living among the Indians. These ate enormous pistols, and carry a bullet like an old arniv musket. We don't know his reason for carrying them as wo have never heard of any person or pern mis making any threats concerning him. Mr. Itav has figured considerably during tk last few years before the court; as a violator of laws, and tin? law abidii.. public and citizens have Ken v< rv kind to him in his fnrm-r scrap; . Kinder that he even knows < !'. but there are times that forbearance ceases to I a virtue. Mr. Hay is laboring und a ; ry serious mistake if he thinks that he can bulldosc tlie public and ride rough ?-h?id over the law and the lights of p:a<whle citizens. The writer lias alwav l.< en very friendly with Mr. Kay and issostiil. bui is a time to he plain to a man. and we would advice Mr. Kay to discard his pistols, and lead the life of a law abiding citizen or the chances will be the.' h \\ ill end his lite as all men do who take the law into their own hands. The ol'ticers of the law deserve and will revolve the snj?l?ort of the council and ; 1 law abiding citizens in such eases as Mr, Hays, "i'lTcouncil intends that any woman or <-b:id can walk on any street of I'nion and:, t Ik: liable to he shot or killed hy the shot from a murderous howitzer or cannon. and the law abiding element are in sympathy with them. Then again we say change your course Mr. Hay, get on tht side of law, order and civilization, for you are your own worst enemy. OBITUARY. Death has been here and borne away.
