Sn.itne base ball team came up last Tues day and gave our boys a bout at the bat. The game commenced at half past four and both sides foujit bravely and well until darkness put an eud to the game at the first half of the ninth inning. The score stood then 27 to 20 in favor ofSnntuc. But Union I had another inning and could doubtless have caught up as it was too du k for the other side to field the ball. So the game wm t called at the eighth inn ug when the score etood 20 te 20. The boys played well on both sides and the gam j was quite inter*eating, real cxc'.ing at times. There was quite a large crowd of spectators and both sides bad sympathizers, so that when either side made a specially good play or an exceptionally bad one the old Gage Grove would ring with cheers and hurrahs. We have not learned wbetucr the tic will be played off, but think that it ought to be. . ^ - ? BIG BASE BALL TOURNAMENT The young men of the Union Base Ball Araociation have been very busy the past week arranging for a Base Ball Tournament to be held hero next week, beginning on Tuesday afternoon and ontinning until Friday morning, when tke great game of the week will be played. The Association has invited Gaffney, ' Motiticeilo and Prosperity te participate iu ! tiie Tournament, but up to the time of going > to pruss Gatlney au l Montic-lle have not been heard from, but then is a gaeat probability that Monticello w.11 accept the iuvi utien. as the I'apt&lQ or tae ttuiu was ia ton it this weak ami expresses himself as b'ing in favor of it.
