The boat tirst built to carry lreight was a partial failure. Another boat is under construction nod as soon as launched we will look for practical results. Wheat crops are turning out only tolerably well. Some wheat we have heard of averaged bushels to the acre. Our people are taking the precaution to provide themselves with a supp'y of Iruit for nest winters use. On Wednesday night of last week ?, we had the hardest rain we have had this year so far. The laud was terribly washed hi places. The bridge across I'acolet river at skull Shoals is bcgiuiug to need repairs to keep it from becoming dangerous. This is one of the most useful or generally traveled roads in this part of the county, and ehould it become obstructed will be a great iLCouveuieuce to the traveling public.| We are glad (hut Supervisor Scoit and the reform government have organized a brother hood in this county to be known as the "chain gang." GILMONS. Mr. ^Editor: Would that you oould have been with us sgaiu on lost Sunday, for you certainly would have enjoyed another treat among our little folks. We celebrated "Children's Day" at Bothesda, better known as "Black Rock" church, and though the weather was bad, still the occasion was one of delight to those who witnessed it. The church was beautifully nod tastefully decorated, and when the hour for service arrived, the house was filled to overtlowing, there being many eager and anxious listeners who could only wish to obtain entrance. The exercises were opened with a song of praise by the congregation, and with prayer ami reading of the 100th l'salin by the pastor, then a song of welcome by the school, recitations, interspersed with sweet singing, led by Miss Annie May Sims, then began. The recitations were all good, well prepared nml their true Christiau sentiment clearly brought out in their delivery, showing tbat neither time, pains nor patience had been spared in their training, by the excellent officers and teachers of the school. At 1*2 o'clock, though ihe ram was falling all repaired to the grove, there not beiog room in tho church, and partook of a beautiful repast, showing that "hard limes'' had long ago ceased to exist in our beloved country. All being somewhat refreshed by tho many good iliiuge lo eti, ard (ha cooling showers, returned to the house Tor the closing part of (lie program in which were some of the most imtcrcstiug features of the day, and especially the "String of Facta" rendered so well by a class of twenty little boys and girls. The facts wore facts indeed und iu truth, setting forth twenty of the great tiuths concerning our missionary woik. Having completed their interesting program the exercises closed with a collection taken for tlie benefit ef the American llaplist Publication Society, the hymn "God be with you till we meet again" sting, benediction pronounced bp the pastor, thus ending u delightful and we trust a profitable day to all preseut. .May this day be the means of instilling in a 1 our hearts more interest iu Sunday School, and in its most noble work.
