John Talley, i father, took the mothers part, ordered Jt ius from the house and was proceeding drive him away when Julius drew apis and fired on his father with the above me tioned result. Metre. J. This was unrioubte ly n difficult case both for the State and ! the defence, lu the first place it was ma ifest to everyone that Julius was guilty some crime, but the only eye witnesses of t shooting were the mother and the father the defendant, who would undoubtedly tr to shield their son. The defense had t combat the almost irresistable argument t gaiost Talley, presented by the fact that B( Talley was dead and that the shot tb; killed him wa? tired by Julius Talley. Judge Bcnit's charge to the jury was ab aud effective He went over ibe lestiaiue with the jury, and weighed it fairly befoi them ? a rather difficult task. The Jury returned a verdict of manslaugi ter with recommendation to tuercy. With a good deal of pathos Mr. McGowa made the following plea for (he mercy of th oourt. May it please your (lonot: I am emboldened by you Honor's action on yesterday to emer th plea of mercy in this case. Talley was sentenced to three years i the State penitentiary with hard labor. Thomas Rogers convicted of.rnanslaught< on Wednesday, was sentenced to two yeai in the State penitentary. Roth of thei sentences were undoudtedly reduced 1 petitions and pleas placed before tl.e cut by counsel. This closed the criminal docket with tIt exception of one or t wo motions in cases tin bad been tried. Saturday morning was taken up in wind ing up the business of the term, and signin consent orders at Cotnimn Pleas. Judge Bcoit and .Solicitor Schumpert le on the mid-day train Saturday. Brown the negro who w tried last week for burning Jim Robersor house and acquitted, was arrestod last St urday on a warrant charging him with coi spiracy to blow up Jim Roberson with dy r,trite.
