M 'ft- f Editor Union Tiuno: { Detr Sir: I noticed in I (hi article of yoo?- correspondent Vox of ] tho 12th instftnoe that the citizens of QowdeysviUe Township in thie oounty hold ? mooting rooently for tho purpose of consulting together and ventilating the m%ny important issues re'ative to tho coming 1 Constitutional Convention which will meet this year. Thoy suggest that each township in tho oounty oall a similar meeting on the first Saturday in May and elect ton eitisons to meet at Union C. H. 8. C. on tho 11th day of Mny at 11 o'clock A. M. to discuss the issues in relation to the Constitution Convention The meeting of (hose citizens is a noble and exemplary work and worthy of all acceptation. The peaceful non partisan spirit which prevailed unanimously among the oilSrnnn wltn nltunii iKnl man deserves the highest respect and most earnest and enthusiastic endorsement ef every true citizen iu the county and ?tate. There is a world of meaning in that meeting. It was the first township meeting of the kind in the oounty and 1 hope dear rerders that you will pardon me for expressing a degree of pride which 1 do certainly feel to see my dear old friends and neighbors of my native township among whom I have spent most of my years and whom 1 have learned to love with undying love, put themselves on record as the first in the Oounty to forsa themselves into a harmonious body and declare their most earnest desire for peace and good will to all men and political factions, aud in favor of electing the very best and most competent men to represent us in the coming Constitutional Convention. The pride which I feel in the action of my old neighbors is not prevoked altogether from a selfish ambition ns some may think; but realising forcibly us 1 do the great necessity of informing the voters of the county and Stale of the many latent dangers that con font us in tho framing of a new Elate Constitution, 1 was much elated the moment 1 saw (ho action of those people and the true principles of patriotism uud Godliness which ruled and governed in all their deliberations at that meeting Their action inspired mo with au enthusiastic desire to give vent to coy lou<; aud anxious intention to attempt to agitate ibe Constitutional Convention question. This Constitutional Convention nud the election of delegates to represent us i> one the most critical periods and vual issues in the history of our Stale, aud 1 feel thai it behoves every cili/.eu in the State w ho has a spark of patriotism within hit breast, and who ftels tho least pride lor the general welfare of our Stu'e and for the future peace and prosperity of our sons and daughters, to make every effort to arouse tho people lrotn their stupid lethargy uud encourage them to study the situation ami imprest) them with fact that etch voter in the State in the exercise of his suffrage at the ballot box in the selection of delegates to represent us in that Convcnlien, holds tu his hand personally to a great extent, the peac. and liberty and future destioy of our pcopto Tlicu tct us all come together once uioro and concern ru e our every etrort to select men to frame our Constitution who are t"?ir minded reasonable God fearing men who will look only to ilic j best interest of every class and party faction in our State. Unless we do succeed in i securing at least a majority of wise liberal 1 conservative men to represent us. who are able and willing to dlsclvu themselves of every vestige of . predjudice aud partisan spirit and close, iheir eyes against all party and personal antagonism, our Constitution will not carry with it tlntl smooth gentle soothing effect upon the working of our C t a I a ooenrn mn or\ t I l? > i ? 4 ? ' 1 - " ' * ?- ' ' kjiatv iibuvim iiiuk it r nun in, u'Jl li 1VM surely be pregnant w>tb obnoxious features which will prove detrimental to some class of our people, and to the general good of our country; and when it is once iraiued, just or udJusI, partisan or non partisan, tt will then have its iron hand firmly fastened upon us and all must yield to its dictations. 1 am a Keformer in the broadest and most liberal sense, and have been from its era'iest incipieucy, but 1 feel that our people cau no longer afford to nourish that old spirit of antagonism. We shou 'd all go to work to appease the rath of our brothers, neighbors, and political tpponenis, aril thereby imure to us all a state Constitution that will mete our justice to every citizen in our State, rich ami poor high and low alike. llut above all let every township in ilie County have a meeting on the first Saturday in May and elect your men to meet at Union C.
