Why? because there arc combinations on nearly every article you u9o. The manufacturers of the North combine on everything and say what it shall bring, while you scll your products for w hutever they arc willing to pay you. Why cannot you protect your coltou | in the satntf way ? 1 should bke, if it meets v< ur approval, to organize a trust company called tho Southern Farmers' Tutsi Company, for the ruii-noso of nroteclimr Your nroducts frotn I lie depressing influences of specu'ntors, ( pinners mnl capitalists, and provide ? means by which you can name ihe price for your products, instead of having the price dictated to you. ss is now (ho enso. 1 feel satisfied this can be done by forming a trust which would be able to handle most of i lie cotton you grow. I.et the capital st#ock be $">0,(H)0,000 to *l<i0,<kH),OOO, subscribed entirely by the farmers of the South ntul divided into as many shares as may be necessary and small enough for every cotton planter to subscribe. Let each farmer lake stock to his utmost capacity and support the trust in every possible way. In case you receive 10 cents for your cotton, instead of '? cents which yott are now receiving, you save on a crop of 8,000,000 bales about j^'JOO,OoO,OOO, at least twice as much as the capital stock of the trust company. In case speculators should become frightened, even at tlie mention of the trust and advance (lie price of cotton, so much the better fur, you, but very likely they w< uld attempt at first to bluff you. 1 think it is now time to act. What benefits the farmer or laborer unquestionably benefits nil classes. If such a plan should meet your approval.
