To The Taxpayers of Booth Carolina! i - At a convention of taxpayers, held In the capital January 11, 1921, a memorial was adopted and preaented to the governor and both branches of the general assembly, protesting against increased appropriations, and urging the strictest economy in the state and county governments. It is apparent from the published reports of the acts of the general as? sembly that they are not disposed to heed tin- appeal of this convention, as indicated by voting down the recom? mendation of the speaker of the house to hold appropriations down to a max-* imum of $:>,ouu, ooo. Therefore we, the committee ap? pointed to represent the taxpayers' convention, do hereby call a conven? tion of the taxpayers to meet at heir respective county seats at 11 o'clock Monday, February 7th, to elect delegates, not less than live from each county, to meet in the capitol tit 3:10 o'clock, on Wednes? day, February 9th, to consider what further action may be wise upon this important issue. We especially in? vite senators and members of the house to meet With their constituents in their respective court houses on the first Monday. If you do not respond to this call, blame no one but yourselves when the tax burden grows heavier. K. W. DAHLS, J. A. HANKS. T. H. DRJSHJ3R, A, K. SMOKE, And others of the Committee. February 20'h Is the last day for making tax returns. After that day the fifty per cent penalty will be ap? plied to all those who have not mad< their returns to the county audilor. There are yet a number of car* In the city and county that are atill get? ting by with the old purple and whw license tags. Just a timely hint, the time is now entirely out and only a 1921 date on a garnet and black li? cense plate will be of any service. A few days only will be allowed for the change of all tags. There are some, of course, who have sent on for the license during the month of Jantaary but have not as yet received the tag. A postoffice money order receipt Will let these parties by, but woe unto the "thors! mtk -1 * As was stinted by the secretary of commerce today, about 700 people have been supplied so far with to? bacco seed. His supply of seed sre just now in a state of almost total ex hausture and he estimates that If he had enough seed on hand, he could easily dispose of enough to plane O thousand more acres in tobacco this year. Every day people are con? tinuing to come for seed. The secre? tary 's unable to get hold of the nec? essary money with which to purchase the seed. The rental money of the tobac?o warehouse is the psUaJ source of seed supply but the ware* house has not been rented out SO far. Applications for the warehouse are now on hand and it will soon be rent* ed. nie demand for the seed, IS however, immediately pressing as the season is at hand and so the money for these seed must come from some? where as soon as is possible. Mor e to? bacco will be planted this year than ever before owing to the curtailment ?of the cotton crop and when the season comes this year fo rthe mar? keting of the tobacco it is easily seen that thousands of dollars will be brought into Sumter from the sur? rounding country. The money for the reel of the tobacco seed supply must come from somewhere. Think.
