The Program Was the Moat Interest? ing and the Contests Most Exciting Especially in the Roadster ami Championship class, of the Week. From The Daily Item, Oct. 16. The second annual show of the Sum? ter Horse Show Association was brought to a successful close yester? day afternoon with the largest crowd of the week in attendance. The chief Interest centered in the fine harness, roadster and championship classes and [and the contests for tho blue ribbons In these events were close and excit? ing. Horsemen whose opinion carries weight agree in saying that the entries in these classes have seldom, if ever, been equalled in quality in a South I Carolina horse show. The star of the entire show was Oriana, the fine har? ness mare that won the cup in the harness horse class. This mare is owned by John T. Collins & Son, of North Mlddletown, Ky., and has won [ribbons in the big horse shows of Ken? tucky and adjacent States. But Oriana was not the only horse in the [show this week that is "bred, in the purple." Taken as a whole the show brought together as line a lot of horses as could be found in the South. Another feature of the show that [attracted much attention and that is worthy of special mention was the herd of Aberdeen-Angus cattle, head? ed by a magnificent bull, exhibited by Mr. L. D. Jennings. There was no prize offered for the herd, but to help out the show and to give those interested in beef cattle an oppor? tunity to see the type of cattle most highly recommended by beef cattle breeders, Mr. Jr ings had his herd on the grounds .roughout the show. They range in price from $75 to $37.50, the average price for the jearlings being about $125. The majority of the animals are of the Aberdeen-Angus type the kind selected for Greenwood county, but there are quite a number of Red Polls and Poll-Herefords. The cattle was purchased In and around the city of Columbus direct from the farmers. Dr. Klnard spoke of one Hereford as an especially fine type that sold for $160 and weighs approximately 2,000 pounds. The animals were loaded last Tuesday, Dr. Kinard says, and should arrive not later than Saturday. A PUBLIC HANGING. Illinois Tonn Makes Public Holiday of Execution.
