The South Carolina Conference to? day deckled to locate Uev. Stephen A. The vote on the resolution was 76 to *& and Bishop Denny hel I that Nettles was therefore not entitled to a pas? toral charge. The resolution was offered Ly R. C. Beulwars, A. H. liest, J T. Nettles be located on the ground of unac ceptablllty." The adoption of this resolution means that Rev. Nettles still remains a member of the confer? ence, but that he is not given any charge. The vote came after a lengthy debate and one that show el signs of becoming warm at several points, but was kept rigidly with? in parliamentary bounds by Bishop Deemy wao hel l the speaker down to strict observance of parliamentary rules and thus prevented anything personal n tho argument. 8. A. Nettles, after there had been repeated expressions of members of the Conference to have him speak In his own defense, made a few remarks ort h's own behalf, but declined to make a plea for forgiveness, as he had been asked to d >y his brethren of the Conference. Immediately after the vote was tak? en and ht found that the Conference hud doclded to locate him, Mr. Net? tles asked to be allowed to make charges ugalnst a number of mem? bers of the Conference for lying. He named Rev. W. 1. Nettles wus lb a i ad used unbecoming lan? guage toward his associates, having called at least two members of the Conference liars during its seslon, ac? cording to statements made in the Conference this morning. Before tho appointments were read. Bishop Wilson made a short ad droaa. begging for harmony in the tWJ Conferences saying that a splrL of peace and brotherly love should be shown by all and thut all should strive together for the good of the church. Bishop Coiling Denny thanked the people of the city and the mombotl of the Conference for the courtesies which had been extended to him und the kindness shown him. lie reiter uted the words ' f Bishop Wilson call? ing for peace and harmony In the f'cmurcncu and among its members. Hi* said that he had tried his best In giving out tho assignments to put each preacher In the Conference w'nlch was most acceptable to him. It was a very difficult matter to ad Just In a manner satisfactory to all and If he had failed in any point, he asked the forbearance of the members of the two Conferenees. A list of the committee and hoard appointments was then read and plans made for their organization imme? diately after the adjournment of the Conference. 1 Bev. J. U. Tray wick made a beau? tiful prayer and after a few words by Bishops Wilson and Denny, the ap? pointments were read and the one hundred and fifty-ninth and last ses si >n of the old South Carolina Meth? odist Conference *vas held. In future there will be two Conferences and two places of meeting. The feature of the day's session was the light on the motion to locate Uev. Stephen Abraham Nettles and not to give him a regular pastorate. The tight showed thut there were muny warm friends of Bev. Nettles In both the South Carolina and tho Upper South Carolina Conferences, but that trese supporters of Bev. Nettles Were in tho minority. Many eloquent and able pleas .were made in behalf of Nettles, but these did not prove suf tl' lent to turn the tide in his favor. A 11. Best, J. I.. Rarity, two of the sign? ers of the resolution, took tin door in u/ging itts passage, but other than these there wire none to push the motion. Mr. Best Is of tho Paoolet Circuit. He thought that in mercy to others the resolution should be pascd. Bev. .Hurley is chairman of the Anti-Saloon League in this State and, while a personal friend of Nct tlio, favored the resolution iafci ihe thought It would be injurious to the church to continue Nettles in a pas? torate. He thought this Would be an ad of mercy on Nettles, as he did not believe that Nettles would he accept? able anyw here, and that nil use; ulne ? had waned. U.-v. L \f* Beaty, chairman of the Sunday school board, made a strong 1 lea for RtV, Nettles, who he said had sinmd no doubt, but others also had sinned ami he believed that Nettle vns sorry for his mistak >s of the pelt. Bev. b. B. YAclls uiso made a strong' idea for mercy, laying! that w hile FtOV. Nettles had not been acceptable to ?one as editor of the Southern Chris? tian Advocate, il had ne\or been shown that he had not proved a - ocptahte in thnrge of a pastorate. Uev. Best went over charges against Uev. Nettles, which were threshed out last year at the Itoek Kill Confer? ence Bev. b. u. Dngnall made a motion to table 'be motion, but his motion failed, Revs U P\ Uen|y. Henry Stokes. B. IWells, B. ?1. lueas, S. ( ?. 'antey, S. 1 >. Y.nu.hn, Q C. Leonard made pleas on hi half of Lev. At this point Rev. Nettles rose and asked if he might ask a question. He was granted the privilege and asked if Mendley meant j to say that lie had been charged what he did not owe. Mendley Stated that he did not think that lu- had owed as much as he had been charged. Nettles then Stated that he had letters from subscribers stating that they had turned over to Rev. After some more discussion the vote was called for and Nettles was located. Sunday Services. Sunday morning there was preach? ing at all of the churches in the city, practically all of the pulpits being oc cupb d by tb.e visiting members of the Methodist Conference. Bishop Den? ny preached at Trinity Methodist church ind Bishop Wilson at Broad Street Met hoi.ist Church. Sunday af? ternoon the memorial session of the Conference was held and memorial tributes were read to those mem? bers <>f the Conference who had tied during the year. Sunday night the pulpits of tho city were again occu pled by the visiting preachers. Bishop Denny took for his text "Whatsoever a Man Boweth, that shall he also real)" and for an hour and a half held the undivided attention of his large audience. Alter the ser? mon, Bishop Denny ordained the class of three elders and twelve dea? cons, using one service and ordaining both at the same time. The ordaining of deacons and elders at one ceremony is something unusual it probably nev? er having occurred before in the South Carolina conference. Before tho morning service u, I^ove Feast was held, being presided over by presid? ing elder J. S. 15easley. Sunday afternoon the memorial to Rev, W, B, Maker was rea?l by Rev. P.
