There .lever was a more serious mistake than for our farmers to do this. Whether you have signed a pledge not to sell any cotton before October 1st or not, to do so at 1 l-2c below what the patriotic citizens of Sumter are paying in the "Buy a Bale" ut ten cents plan is to be utterly void of all proper appre? ciation of what this splendid plan is doing and its possibility with busi? ness connections all over the union wiring to our banks and merchants here to buy at ten cents from one bale to 10,400 that Montgomery Ward & Co., say they will take; with mer? chants offering to settle accounts at 10 centn for cotton and to sell goods for any overplus at the same rate, the men who sell for less, however pressed they may be, are traitors, un? conscious though they may be, to the South in this hour of her peril. Do without everything we possibly can, and sell everything we can rather than fall into the trap of thinking we have done a good thing when we sell cotton at 8 1-2 cents.
