U.?A spectacular lire occurred here early this afternon when the warehouse and contents of the Texas Uli company, situated on the yards of the Blue Ridge railway, near the union station, were totally destroyed entailing a loss of $8,000, with partial insurance. The fire originated in a peculiar manner, coming as a result of the ex? plosion of live gallons of gasoline Which O. F, Taylor, local agent of the company, was preparing to feed to his automobile, which was standing on the inside of the warehouse. Mr. Taylor opened his battery box, which is tlxed on the running board of the machine, to get a wrench which he used in unloosening the tap on the gasoline tank of the automobile. After unscrewing tho tap he dropped the wrench back into tho battery box, which cither caused the wires in the box to short circuit, emitting sparks, or which caused sparks when the wrench came in contact with another piece of metal. The bill goes in with three adverse Democratic votes from the banking committee, and with a well i organized opposition against maiiv of, I its features, within the Democratic ranks. The president has been assured by his advisers in congress that the measure can be passed in the house Without material change, and lie has not altered his purpose to insist upon currency legislation at the present special session. The house caucus is being awaited with keen intrest, be? cause of the anticipation of a de-j tcrmlned effort to delay consideration! of currency reform and to make im? portant changes in the bill. The efforts of the president and Secretary McAdoo to align sentiment in the senate in support of immediate j currency legislation have been less successful than in the house. How ever, if the Democratic leaders suc? ceed in lining up a strong majority in the house caucus tomorrow on the' support of the bill and secure the ap? proval of the measure without change, ( it is hoped that the effect upon the I senate will be to induce reluctant j committees to agree to immediate leg I Islatlon. j While the hanking bill is thus j thrust to the front at the beginning , of the week, it will not displace the tariff in the activities of the congres? sional week.
