The meet? ings of the convention were held ir the First Baptist Church and there were about two hundred persons In attendance at the afternoon and night sessions. The chief features of the meeting wile addresses by Miss Grace W. Vandlver of Spartanburg, at the after? noon and night sessions, and by Mrs. Mary Foster Bryner at the night ses? sion. Before the night sessions adjourn? ed the following were elected as per? manent officers for the association: Rev, W. i. lleiheit, president; C. A. Witherepoon, secretary, and B. B. Aycock, treasurer. There were a large number of out of-town visitors In attendance upon the two sessions of the association, representing Sunday schools through? out the county, although there were no regularly appointed delegates from any of the Sunday schools in or out of the city. i The meeting was called to order in the First Baptist Church and was opened by prayer led by Rev. D. M. Mel.cod. Kev. J. P, Marion was chosen temporary chairman and C. A. Witlu rspoon temporary secretary. Rev. W. I. Herbert, i>. D., spoke i on "Why are we here?" In which he outlined very clearly and forcefully the purp e of the meeting. The out? line in brief was BS follows: We are here Urs! boa use we believe in the study of God*S word; second, In the study of God's word In the Sunday School, and third. In having well de? veloped Sunday schools. Miss Grace w. Vandlver, General' Secretary State Sunday school work i u;?s to Speak on "The Child we T- o h." but she failed to make the proper railroad connections and 1 couldn't be present, Mrs Mary Foster Bryner, Chicago, member of the National Sunday School Board, followed Dr. Herbert with her talk on "Effective Aids to 1 elementar) Teaching." Mrs. Bryner's talk was very line indeed, and Judg? ing from the attention given her, ev i v one present enjoyed it. Her ideas and suggestions presented at this Meeting Will undoubtedly hear fruit in our local Sunday School work. Kev. J. m. Kogeis pronounced the benediction, and the meeting was ad lourned to meet again at 8.00 P, M. There were Afty-seven delegates present. Night Session. Dr. C, c. Brown led In the opening devotional exercises of the evening session. Kev. J. 1'. Marion spoke on "A Call to Service," which was very timely and helpful, Mrs. Mary Foster Bryner followed with her talk on "The World-wide Sunday School Movement." It was indeed a treat to hear this address by Mrs. Bryner, Holding the position that she dots with the National Sun? day School Board she is In a position to see the whole Sunday School move? ment at wo. It was Indeed inspir? ing to hear her tell the history and workings of the Sunday School work i hroughout the world. Miss Gr?fe W.
