One of the managers of election, Mr. J. Manly Smith, was put on the stand and stated that although they had the rulos of the primary on the table by the ballot boxes, yet he had never read them and doubt if the other managers had, for they did not know that a negro, before he could vote must present an affidavit from ten white men of good standing that they know that he had voted for Hampton In '7G and had voted the Democratic ticket ever since. Hon. Mendel Smith of Camden made It clear and convincing that the election law had been violated, not through fraud, but by not posting themselves on the rules and allowing the Irregularities complained of. While on the other hand, the counsel for defence, Messrs. Thos. G. Mc l.eod and L D?
