Defeat Blues Five Times in Five QaaaeS?Biggest Crowd yet in At tondanee. Five times in as many games the Redl Friday night defeated the Blues making a new record in the volley ball league series The games were he hardest fought and longest which have yet been played during the season and showed the result of practice and hard work combined. The Reds, with captain Tweed in the van. ware seemingly in? vincible and by superior team work won out over their opponents in every game, although the BlUOS played a good game all the way through. With the addition of the percent? age made in these games the Reds are far In the lead in the league Be rles and unless some of the other teams play superb ball from now on. they will probably cop the pennant. The erowd in attendance upon the game Friday night was the largest which has yet attended any game, he gallery being tilled to the utmost Capacity und most q| the small boys and players of other teams finding ? om to tee from the gymnasium floor und >r the gallery, The next game w ill be played Tuesday night. Most Enthusiastic Itnd Largely At? tended ever Held at Bethel Church. The closing session of ? .e Bantee : muter Assembly was held In Bethel Church near Privateer Friday at noon and marked the end of one of the most enthusiastic and the most largely attended of the sessions which have been held at the Bethel church. The addresses of many of the pas? tors present were inspiring and edify? ing to the hinhest degree and the whole meeting was in every way as successful or more so than any other which has ever been held on the grounds. The crowd of persons in at? tendance was larger than formerly, although the number staying In the tents which had bean pitched on the grounds was not as large as was the number which camped out last year. Many of those in attendance from outside of the district stattd that they thought that more people ? ren than did, would have att- nded the a#> sembly from off. One Of the prom? inent persons present who strongly expressed the sentiment was the Rev, Mr. Nichols of Florence county. The addresses of Dr. B. C. Hargan of Macon, and Dr. J. s. ihii of Qaff ney were truly Inspiring and the audience was carried away by the speakers. Those who heard these H if ted divines will anxiously await the time when they can again have the pleusure of hearing them. Other ad? dresses and sermons were tine and w.-re beard with great pleasure by those In attendance. 1 >r. Jeffries of Kdgofield made an especially tine im? pression on bis audience. a disappointment to some was the fact that Dr. Z. c. Cody of Greenville and I ?r. a. J. Hail were unable to come to the assembly and tin y were much missed. Mr. J. I?. Moore, the Sunday school man of the assembly, carried a class through one book of the Sunday sc hool course, good results being expec ted to follow thefofroill. All of those present spoke of the fine assembly and all fell amply re? paid for their attendance. The peo? ple of Bethel church felt more than amply repaid for their trouble in pre? paring for the visitors and making the arrangements for the assembly because <?f the good and pleasure they derived from it. The moderator of the meetings was Mr. W. Ct. WellS, Who W;iS elected to serve In the absence of Rev. J. N\ Tolar. Marriage License Iteeord. Su-itor Boys Had tin Enjoyable lime hi Their Annual Encampment. The Second regiment troops arriv? ed at hom?- Monday morning after having- been on their annual encamp* ment at Annlaton, Alabama, for the past ten days. Camp was brokon Sunday morning and the troops left Annlaton about 10 o'clock and arriv? ed at hoim- some time during Mon? day morning, after having had a pleas? ant trip all the way. The officers from Sumter who were in a:tendance upon the encampment report having had a most successful encampment, in fact the encampment was said by some of them to have been the most successful in many re? spects which has ever been held. The <amp anil grounds were much better suited for such an encampment than that at Chickamauga and were very much more beautiful than the lat? ter grounds. The South Carolina troops were always in the van in the skirmishes and sham battles and their camp was complimented as the clean? est on the grounds by the army of? ficers. The Palmetto State troops also had the pleasure of hearing their Hag lustily cheered by the people of Annlaton when they paraded through that town on their return from the sham battle Saturday morning. The Sumter company was always at the head of the battalion which led the regiment and was therefore one of the most prominent in ink manoeu vers. The South Carolina troops stojd the encampment in line shape. Th?re was very little sickness among thern and very lew arrests. in fact, less | than on other encampments, a fact on which they can congratulate them? selves. There were only two men in the Sumter company sick while on the encampment. The Sumter hoys seem? ed in good spirits and did not show j any of the marks of hard work Mon day morning when they resumed i their work as usual upon their return | to the city. In fact, as one of the of- i ticers remarked, the encampment was jharder on the officers this year than on the men, for the officers were in the school of instruction much longer each day than the men. The special train tin wh'ch the men returned arrived in town between 8 and 7 and after the disembarkment of the Sumter and Orangeburg compa inies. left for Hartsviiie. Darlington, Florence, TimmonavUle and Bennetta Vllle to take the other companies home, The orangeburg company BO* I cured a special train and was taken ' home on that. Mr. White Withdraw-.
