April 8.?The butldio<? boom that struck town during hist spring and summer will probably be continued this year. The handsome residence of Mayor Womble hus junt been completed. Robert A. Chand? ler, one of the leading merchants here. Is preparing to build a modern, brick store on the site of his present frame building. Part of his store has already been torn away In order to facilitate the moving of the building to make r?,?>m for the contemplated I improvemets. Work will be underway by May 1. There will be some more building- In the business section of town if all reports are correct. Work will probably begin soon on the new depot of the Atlantic Coast Line. Quite j a lot of painting is being done since ' the advent of spring and some prem? ises are greatly improved. Farming operations are taking on signs ol life since the good weather has come and much plowing Is being done on all sides. A great many of the planters have finished planting corn and some are commencing to plant cotton this week. The reduc? tion in acreage will shorten this part of the farm work and many will be through planting within a short time. There will probably be more grain raised around here than In a good number of years. The oat crop is very flourishing at present. Mayesville will send a good delega? tion to the unveiling eeremonies and musical festival in Columbia this week if all attend who are speaking of taking the trip over to the capitol city. The Presbytery of Harmony will meet in its spring session tomorrow at Lynchburg. The Mayesville church will be represented by Rev. H. A. Knox and R. J. Mayes, Sr. Misses Nettle and Sadie Mayes, who are at home from the College for Wo? men, Columbia, for the Easter holi? days, entertained at a delightful re? ception in honor of their guest, Miss Algie Wickman, of Walterboro, who is also a student at the College for Women. A large numbor of the young; people attended the reception | and a moat enjoyable evening was j spent at the hospitable and beautiful ' home of Mrs. S. L. May es. Wheeler and Miss Mary Cooper spent Sunday in Timmonsville visiting relatives. A lady physician, Dr. Lindsay Wyn koose, a Chicago mother, in an ad? dress before the National Congress of Mothers, recently at St, Louis, ie clared that the next President of the United States should have a woman as a member of the cabinet. We do not know whether Mrs. Woodrow Wil? son would care to serve, but we sug? gest her name to the next President as he might feel a delicacy in going outside the family for a lady cabinet adviser.?Wilmington Star.
