Ansel Will \ t ry probably order a special Itm 0 court at Georgetown l?>i the trial of John Jenkins, the negro now in the penitentiary chained with attempte 1 criminal assault. Under the law the recommendation for special terms of court must come from the solicitor of the circuit in all criminal cases. Gov. Ansel was engaged yesterday In taking up the matter with Solicitor Wells. He has received several re? quests from citizens of Georgetown and the vicinity for the special term of court. There will be several interesting features in connection with this triab Under the recent act of the legisla? ture attempted rape is a capital of? fense Just as la the* actual crime. Upon the recommendation of the jury the prisoner may, however, be committed to the penitentiary for *\ period of not more than 40 years nor less than five years. The act also provides for the taking of testimony In such cases In secret. This- Is further to protect the Identity of the female witnesses be? yond the limits of the court room. There is also a law recently enacted against the publishing of the names of ffmale victims or witnesses except in i tin- court records. John Jenkins has been positively ii n titled as the mail who attempted assault upon the Georgetown school teacher.
