Tex., April 5.-A report to ?train dispatchers here from Aloxan ?dria. La., says that at least twenty persons were killed and a hundred injured there in a cyclone. The re? port says terrible was the havoc and the greater part of the town is in ruins. Fifty houses were torn in bits and several stores and factories were demolished. Alexandria is a commercial and railroad center with a population of seven thousand. A large farming area was in the storm's path. The oycione came without warning at 2 o'clock this morning. Trees were up Tooted and tossed a hundred feet into ?the air. The storm was soon over ..and the rescue work begun. HIGH TELEGRAPH RATES. .The Western Union Company Issues Order Abolishing Specials. Effective liondaj-, April 1, the Western Union Telegraph company will increase certain classes of night messages 20 per cent., and at the same time abolish the special rates which have been enjoyed for so long hy brokers and members of boards of trade throughout the country. Where the day rate has been 50 .cents for a message of twelve words ?nd three cents for every word thereafter, with a night message of 30 and two cents, the night rate after last Monday will be 40 and three ?cents. The other increase come:- in the <60 cent clas. Where night ages -were 40 cents for twelve wo v. and three cents for additional wo s :he new rate for the night message viii he 50 and three cents. The increase means the establish? ment of a flat rate basis, placing all patrons on an equal plane and do? ing away with the special rates.
