vited gaesw assembled in the camp, and the
installation of tbe regularly elected officers

At a tew minutes after 9 o'clock (be camp
marched io a body to tbe banquet hall is tbe

sapper was ia charge of the ladies of the Bap?
tist Cbarcb. The hall was tastefully deco?
rated with evergreens and ??oe?, and tbe
words **Woodmen of the World" were
placed in large letters arouad tbe walls. Tbe
tables ran dow o both sides of the ball aod
another table was placed crosswise to these

were seated the higher officers and guests of

necessary to leapt the appetite, for the mena

SWITCHMAN KILLED
Jesse Coningham Killed by Jump

Sonday morning, Jesse Coningham, said
to be from Florence, met his death ia jump

road yard. The body was fou od
lying near tba track with the neck ' broken
?od bead badly bruised. It is thought that
he jumped while the engioe was ruoniog at a
rapid speed and he fell hitting bis be?d
against an iron rail near tbe track.
After examining a few witnesses, the
coroner's jury rendered the verdict: "That
th? deceased came to his death from causes
unknown to the jory."
Mr. Co ningham's body was taken home by
bis father, M?. W. A. Coningham, of Flor?
ence Monday afternoon. The deceased was
a popular young mao of that town, coming
to Sumter only this year. He was but twen?
ty-one years of age.
Bis sudden death was a great shock to hie

The County Board of Commissioners met

amoant proposed to lend the county at 5

transmitting the annual report of the
attorney general.
The constitution of the 3tate pro
vides that the election for United
States senator shall be held on the
second Tuesday after the openiog of
the session. The legislature conven
ed Tuesday two weeks ago, aod last
Tuesday proceeded to ballot for
senator. Senator Tillman himself
made the point that tbe election was
illegal, and tonight immediately after
the roii call in the senate, Mr Shep
pard introduced a concurrent r?solu
tion setting forth that as there was
doubt as to the legality of the elec
tion last week, another election should
be held today The resolution was
adopted, and tomorrow the senate
and house will ballot separately for a
United Slates senator, and Wednes?

sessiou to count the ballot and declare
