Clifton, of the First Method st Church, dod Rsv. T. J. Clyde, presiding elder of Sum? ter district tor the pset year. After a short song service tbe opening prayer waa made by Dr. Clifton. The scripture lesson was read by Mr. Cov? ington, a selection from tbe book of Psalms. Short addresses were made by tbe following representatives of tbe various denominations of the city: Hon. R. I. Manning, of the Episcopal Church, Mr. A. G. Flowers, of the First Baptist Choren, Mr. A. C. Ducker,of tbe Lutheran Church, Dr. J S Hugbsoo, of the Bartlett Strett Cburcb, Gen E. W. Moise, of the Jewish Church, Mr. Neill O'Donnell, of the Catholic Church, and Mr. C. M. Hurst, Jr., of tbs First Methodist Church. The speeches all abounded in words of encouragement and good cheer. Mr. W P Sxitb made a happy response on behalf of his courcb. The occasion was, as characterized by one of the speakers, a veri table love feast, and marks in'an unusual way the feeling of perfect cordiality which prevails among the various denominations. Mr. Kelly was called upon, and in asbort speech gave an interesting account of the ia ception and development of his work, which bas been aided by tbe entire community re? gardless of creed. Mr. Clyde, the venerable Presidio t Eider was called upon, and responded in a patbeiic speech, full cf timely admonition. He spoke of the many kindnesses received by himself and family at the bands of the people of Sumter, and returned hts thanks in a hearty way.
