I)., 1895, by ?ny person or persons, or corporation engaged in, or intending to en? gage in any calling, business, profession or occupation, in whole or in part within the limits of tiie City of Sumter, except those en gaged in the calling or profession of Teacher*, and Ministers of the Gospel." WHEREAS, by An Act of the General Assembly of South Carolin?, approved De? cern ber 24lb, 1883 and by other Acts of tbe General Assembly of safd State/ approving aud ratifying the same in relation to the "City of Sumter," it is provided, "That tbe said Town Council, be and they are hereby authorized annually to require the payment of such reasonable sum or sums of money as al ?cense tax, by any person or persons or corporation engaged, or intending to engage, in any calling, business?, profession or occupa? tion, in whole or m part within the limits of the town of Sumter, except those engaged in the calling or profession of teachers and min? isters of the Gospel. That any person or persons or corporation, required by this Ordinance to obtain a license to eiagage in any calling, business, profession or occupation for which a license is required, shall apply to the Clerk and j Treasurer of the City of Sumter for the same, -by whom all suco licenses shall be issued I and shall* at the time of applying for such ? license make in writing and sign a statement, j and file the same with said Clerk and Treas j urer setting forth ! 1st. His, her or its name or style ; and io i case of a firm or company the names of the ! several persons constituting such firm or cotu ! paoy; 2d. The calling, business, profession or ! occupation for wbich a license is required ; | 3d. The place where such calling, busi- j ness, profession or occupation is to be car? ried on, and, 4th. In those cases in which such infor? mation is requisite, the amount of business of the preceding twelve months next before tbe time required for taking out such license, upon which amount the license tax shall be assessed ; and in cases where the business bas not been carried on the previous year, then ! the amount of business expected to ne carried j on during the year, for which such license is j required-all of which and answers to ques I lions relative thereto shall be giveu under j oath, and for which purpose, the Clerk and Treasurer of the City of Sumter, is author ! ized and reqiured to administer such oath to j the applicant; whereupon the Clerk and !
