QuiobliDg With Justice, j v . - . .-Bdgtfixld Chronicle . r ^ j On Monday morning the case of ihe State against Charles*Jones, for. the -murder of the tbree Pressleys-or, more technically, for the murder of Charles Preasley-was called. Major-Gary, of counsel for the defendant, announced that the Hon. Geo D. Tillman, one of the most important wituesses for the de fieuce, though duly summoned, was not present. . Judge Pr?salev issued a rule that Mr. Tillman be brought hither under a bench warrant by 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning, and forthwith ad? journed the Court until that hour. A constable was despatched for Mr. Till? man; and soon after the calling of Court on Tuesday morniug that gen? tleman entered thc Court-room, aud courteously advancing to the Judge, ?book bands with him cordially, .When Mr. Tillaras stepped back from the ! stand bis Honor, to the equal surprise and amusement of the. audience, re? minded bim of his absence the day be? fore, and asked him why he should nor be ruled for cou tempt of Court. Mr Tillman replied with dignity that be bad been under the impression the case was not to be called until Tuesday morning, and that he would of his own accord, have been present at that time. He added, too, that he knew nothing about tbe case, and not biog, personally, about the prisoner. Mr. Tillman being present, that dodge was, of course play? ed out. - So the ^curtain dropped upon the Tillman episode. And right here ?l?t ns say that we would not be sur? prised if the King of the Sandwich islands.were finally summoned in this case-anybody in fact who cannot easily be got at. Now another one of tho defendant's counsel began to read an affidavit from tbe said defendant. Judge Pressloy stopped him, and, calling fer the affi? davit, read it himself in silence. And <-be*eu p?B . t?&a*fice?L , t h c_new dodge. Javm;?lliw.pf?Beper^iail-vawora -ihat he had often; br^ repeatedly, or something so; heard the Pressleys say that they were blood kio to Judge Presley. And upon this ground the counsel for the defence asf ed for a e^ntinnance*of the case.
