C Duggan's Troubles and Travels. MAYESVTLLE, S. C., April 3, 1886. This is to inform all men that I did not go into win ter quarters, nor havel been in a bole, hat I have been in trouble. Like the girl who fell through the loft, I have the worst luck and the most of it, of any man living. To make bad collections all through the Fall is trouble enough, but to hold several hundred bales of cotton on a falling market and with heavy expense, and finally to sell half of it when ct its lowest is still worse. Cotton took a little rise and I started to sell at such break neck speed that I run over a negro kill? ing him outright, but was too late after all, cotton falling again before the order conld be delivered ; so I did not sell then, but con? tinu?e? to hold till finally getting nervousj ?old a9 I said before at the lowest figure. Then I bought a horse warranted to be all right, and he is not all right. He kicks wherever I put him ; he kicks in the wagon, n the baggy, in the plow, under the saddle, ie kicks everywhere, and some of these days ie will kick bis villainous legs off. Yes I im in trouble, as much so as your TTedgefield correspondent who tried to keep muse with a hired cook, and was almost Irivea to bankruptcy by her thieving, le lost as much by his cook as I have by my :icking horse. But I had much rather have uch a horse than try to keep house without , wife. In fact all our Wedgefield friend leeded was a wife, who would keep both him .nd the cook straight. Another considera ion in favor of a wife is, she does not receive ny wages. Mayesville is very quiet even though our lunicipal election will come off Monday, tb instant. Cash trade is also quiet. There is no cash 0 trade with. It has all gone with cotton old on a falling market and buying kicking orses, &c. A recent trip through the Connty shows mr farmers well advanced in their work nore so thao usual. I looked over J. H. Phil? ips' fine farm and found it in splendid condi ion. The red lands of Wedgefield look as trim .nd orderly as a well cultivated garden. I ouud Aycockin fine spirits and full of pract? ical sense and suggestions opon farm topics. )r. McLaurio's smiling face told me, that he ras, as he always is, in a fine humor, leering those genial, thrifty and practical ;entlemen did me good. I spent the night rita E. J. Goodman. He has a fine farm, ut more nut grass than be wishes. 1 visited Charleston last week and had my j isual luck getting there. Missed the con ection and had to lie over and be worried,, ut finally reached the city all right. I met ir. W. W. Dick at Wolbern & Pieper's, and e looked as pleasant as if he had 6old a ozen big bills of goods the day before. I >und every thing cheap and bought my oods and left, after enjoying the splendid lusic of the Moody and Sankey singers, he evangelists made a deep impression upon harleston. and the entire community is stir id to its deepest depths. I bought a Moody nd Saokev book .tnd I bave beeo wanting > preach ever stace. I ought to have been a reacher any way, then I never would have eld cotton on a falling market or bought a ?eking horse. But I must close till the next me. DUGGAN. (We are a little surprised at Duggan's iving himself away about that kicking orse. He can't sell a horse for the next ten ears without the purchaser thinking that is ?e horse. But maybe, as he wants to preach e is going to start cut square with the orld. Ed.) I had to comb back the hair from my fore ?.ad and omit the parting to conceal my ildt:ess. Since then Parker's Hair Balsam -is made my hair as thick and glossy as ever, adies whose hair is getting thin will find ie Balsam just splendid. Mary Swanson; hicago. m 1880. Little EDNA ended her short life of two rears and 23 days this afternoon. Days have grown into weeks since the fell disease began to prey npon her. She struggled against it patiently, sustained by the constant care of [.parents and friends, and ministered to con tinually by a watchful physician. After all, the end has come. God bas plucked the flower for himself. It is a pleasing thought, to conceive of the children being gathered home to God from all the lands under the skies. It is thus that God receives a revenue of soul3 from among all people-souls which have not been tarnished by guilt nor hard? ened by iniquity. If we could divest ourself of all selfishness, parents would never repine at those dispensations of a loving God. His care is more tender than ours, his love more infinite. The life above knows not the vicis? itudes of the life beneath, ard only the ran? somed dead are truly blessed. Rest, babe, in the bosom of thy Father. What thou bast gained by an early death many of us may fail to obtain by a long life. "The dear Lord who gave them and took them away, Will not leave us forever alone ; He will gfre them all back to our bosom again, When we stand on the sea by the Throne." With this little tribute goes the sincerest sympathy of a friend, who, having suffered knows how to feel for others. B. SUMTER, March 16th, 1886. Amber Sugar Cane Seed. Messrs. J.
