We copy the following from the House Journal of Nov. 29: Mr. Richard D. Lee gave notice that to? morrow or on seme subsequent day he would ask leave to introduce A Bill to amend the charter of the town of Sumter. A Bill to change the time of holding Courts in the Third Circuit. A Bill to authorize the town of Sumter to ! fund its indebtedness in coupon bonds. A Bill to exempt from taxation a certain lot j in the town of Sumter known as the "Monu? mental Square.." A Bill to charge the name of the Episcopal j Church of Claremont to that of the Holy j Cross, and for other purposes therein men- j tioned. A Bill to authorize the County Commis? stoners of Sumter County to borrow money for ordinary County purposes. A Bill to exempt from taxation all lands under mortgage for the purchase money there? of, to the extent of such encumbrance and to provide for the taxation of such mortgages. The following recent change of schedule has been made on the Central Railroad, a no? tification of which we received too late for proper classification on our outside : Leave Charleston, 11.40 A. Peterson's Magazine for January is just out, j amarvel of beauty, the most costly, evidently, | ever issued. There are two unrivalled steel j engravings ; the first, "Cherry Ripe," an ex- j quisite copy of Millais' celebrated picture ; ? the other, "Psyche Listening to the Flute," also exceptionally charming. There are two novelets, "Theprofessional Beauty," by Frank i Benedict, and "Rule or Ruin," by Mrs. Ann j S. Stephens, besides several completed stories j by other first-class authors, and the very best always write for this magazine. The reading matter is increased also, there being one hun? dred and four pages in the number. "Peter? son," in short, is cheaper and better than ever for \ 1883. The price is still only two dollars a j year. To clubs it is astonishingly low, viz: j six copies for nine dollars, with an extra j copy to tlieperson getting up the club. Or j seven copies for ten dollars anda half, with both an extra copy and a large size engraving, "Christ before Pilate," or a photograph Album, to the person getting up the club.
