Miller has purchased from the Mcintosh Motor Company a new Ford truck for use in connection with sausage manufacturing and cold storage plant. Rev. John W. Davis and family leave next Tuesday, August 22nd, for his mother's home in Choudrant, Louisiana. They expect to return about September 22nd. Robert L. Peguese of Lanes, has registered for special courses at the summer session of Boston University at Boston, Mas~. Mr. Peguese is specializing in French and mathematics. * The Rev. John Ridout, Jr., will preach at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening at 8:30. The pastors have decided to have union services each Sabbath night for the month of August. * * Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Worthington of Baltimore, Md., who have been visiting the latter's sister, Mrs. B. F. Patrick and also friends in Florence have returned home, they made the trip by auto. * * ? ? Dr. R. W. These averages show that the farmer has received more as a first payment on his tobacco through the cooperative plan than was paid as full payment through the auction plan last year. * Mr. Will M. Hundley of Virginia, spent last week in Kingstree with his wife who is at present conducting the Salesmanship Campaign for The ! County Record. Before leaving this I section for Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Hundley spent the week-end sightseeing in Charleston. Mr. Hundley is well known throughout Virginia and North Carolina as a newspaper man. * The pumping at the town's water plant on mm street is nvw ueiu& done entirely by electric pumps under the supervision of the Kingstree Electric Lighting and Ice Company. This it is believed will result in a considerable saving to the town in the matter of ccal and plant operators. The work was taken over by the above named company about the first of August. The water is now f being pumped from the artesian wells , direct to the distributing tank, and I not from the old reservoir as was the old system. * * * Citizens and members of the several congregations of the town enjoyed a most delightful musical program at the Methodist church Sunday night in the form of an organ recital by Professor Tulley of Lander ' College. The church was filled with ; the music-loving people of the town. Professor Tulley is well known here, *-- ^ xt.. :? he having assisted m me msuuiauun of the splendid pipe organ at the Methodist church several years ago, when he gave a most enjoyable recital. He will always find a cordial 1 welcome to Kingstree. o? 1 Birthday Party. i On last Wednesday afternoon at < the home of her parents, Mr. and ! Mrs. T. E. Aitov,-smith, Miss Louise | celebrated her twelth birthday with < a lovely party, about fifty guests be- ! ing present. Upon the arrival of J each guest they were given a number < to be ready lor the contest. The , catching of a blue bird by sprinkling ] salt on its tail was the feature of the 1 afternoon. The refresh- j ments which consisted of block ice j cream, cakes and candy were of the same shades as the decorations. The j Souveniers at each place were snap j caps which caused much merriment | The center piece was a large birth- j day cake with twelve pink candles.
