FIRST SOLID CAR SWEET POTATEOS A. C. L. MAKES QUICK DELIVERY OF SHIPMENT TO WASHINGTON, D. C? STORES. The Florence Daily Times says: "The carload of sweet potatoes which the Sanitary Grocery Stores of Washington, D. C., bought last week from the Planters Produce & Storage house, member of the South Carolina Sweet Potato Association, was placed at 9 >mcfoiv)ov mnrrinc for unload V UVtIV ^towviuut ? ir.g, according to a service report this morning to Mr. B. S. Meeks, commercial agent of the Atlantic Coast Line railroad, over which shipment was made. On account of the rush order, this being the first order of these big chain stores, and anxiety to make good connection, the Coast Line undertook to make this movement especially a sen-ice feature. They put i* through in quick time after the car was delivered to them. "Since the shipment of the car, Mr. T. Benton Young, president of the South Carolina Sweet Potato Association, has been making some investigation regarding this order. He has learned that this is ;he first solid car of cured sweet potatoes ever shipped out of Florence. As far as the records of the railroad disclose, this is the first carload of sweet potatoes ever placed in the capitol. "Much interest throughout the state, wherever there are curing and storing houses, has been aroused. The shipment has attracted considerable press comment and the story in the Times, announcing the order, hae been reprinted in a number of papers." o School Play Great Success. On Friday evening, December 2nd Mrs. J. H. Richardson and Miss Blanche Wyndham invited the Smith Swamp and Barnes school of which they are teaching, and presented one of the most interesting plays of the season. The stage was tastefully decorated using pot plants with pine, holly, etc Characters did their parts well. Both teachers and pupils deserve credit foi interest shown. The play presentee was "The Lost Prince," and was as follows: King, Harry Barnes; Queen, Sadie Altaian; Princess Christabella, Hilms Eaddy; Bad Fairy Tarantella, Evs Gibson; Good Fairy Violetta, Maude McElveen; Christmas Spirit, Nettie Gibson; Magician Mirza, Dewey Eac dy; Nurse, Addie Douglas; Maid Docia Altman; Guards, Gillie Altmar. Jiles An twine; The Lord High Chamberlain, Willard McElveen; Page Croley Sessions; Ladies in Waiting Bell Burroughs, Janie Cribb; Firsl Lady, Dell Howell. Between acts music on Victrola Next on program was a short drill titled "Good Night" by eighteen little tots. Next on program was string fco Messrs Geonre Coo Dei. B, W. McElveen, Lei an Thomas and G. B. Guess. ?< Union High School Notes. Rome, Dec. 4.?The second month for Union High school has passed with success. The 'enrollment still increasing. Several patrons and parents have visiied the school during the month, an invitation is always extended to them. The Francis Marion Literary Society has held its regular meetings. The programs have been very interesting. A Halloween party was given in the school auditorium on October the 28th. On the morning of the 10th of November a very interesting patriotic program was. carried out The school observed the 11th as a holiday.
