News From Rome Rome, Aug. 23.?Miss Ruth McDow ?f Lancaster visited friends here last week. She was a teacher here some time ago and her many friends were delighted to see her again. Mrs. Spencer Legctte and little daughter, Ethel, of Camp Meade, Md., are visiting the former's father, Dr. h. B. Johnson. They are accompanied by a friend, Miss Elizabeth Hurt, wf Petersburg, Va. Prof. 0. M. Mitchell is spending this week with his parents at Ridge Spring. Mrs. D. I. Wilson and daughter, Neil, have returned from an extended visit to the former's daughter, Mrs. Holmes B. Springs, in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Altman of Georgetown are visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cribb, here. Miss Daisy Rollins has returned to her home at Indiantown after spending a few weeks with relatives here. ^Mrs. Laura Legette of Centenary visited relatives here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Yates and little daughter of Hartsville have been spending some time with Mr. Yate's parents, Mr. and Mrs. ?,. w. rates. Mr. Clinton Legette of Centenary was the guest of relatives here this week. We are glad to know that Mrs. Fannie Munnerlyn, who has been quite sick, is now improving. Mrs. G. K. Way and daughter, Harriet, are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Floyd, at Floyddale. Mrs. J. M. Clyde and children, Tom and Grace, of Kingstree are spending the month of August with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Hemingway. Rev. G. K. Way spent a part of last week with his mother at Dorchester. Tom McLeod of Lynchburg was the guest of D. D. Rhem, Jr., last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Hill and children spent last week-end at Cades with relatives. Miss Mildred Hemingway of Hem iigway is the guest of her cousin, Miss Nell Wilson, for a week. Nita Altman of Georgetown is visiting Louise Cribb. Mr. Breck Gamble of Tallahassee, Fla., visited Flint Rhem last week. How demonstration work in cooperative cotton marketing is aiding farmers during the current season is illustrated by the story of a pool formed in Texas, as reported by the Bureau of Markets and Crop Estimates of the United States Department of Agriculture. Three hundred bales of cotton were placed in this pool. Individually the growers had been offered from 3 to 7 cents a pound for the cotton on their local market. The entire lot was classed by representatives of the Federal bureau and grade cards issued to the owners. The samples were then forwarded to Dallas and the cotton trade invited to bid. The lot was sold ?c 10.25 cents a nound average. On the classification made by the I Diiwwi.'c vonrocontativp the nool av I eraged 75 points of middling. The middling spot price at Dallas on the day of the sale was 10.35 cents. The growers' accounts were settled on the i basis of the grade cards issued .for the individual bales, using the Dallas differences fo rthe day. SAliE UNDER EXECUTION.
