One of the most enjoyable social functions of the season was t-e reception given by the Mothers' Club to the fathers, Friday evening at the lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Carol Burgess. The entire lower floor was thrown en suite and was tastefully Jecorated with cut flowers while the spacious piazzas which were particularly adaptible to such an occasion, tvere decorated with fems and other potted plants. Upon arriving the guests were received at the door by Mrs. L. A. Van Keuren, president, Mrs. J. D. Britton md Mrs. E. C. Burgess, and invited into the hall wehere punch was served cy Mesdames Swittenberg and Claude . fhompson. Partners for an amusing contest ivere secured by di awing slips of paper, on each of which was written the name of a flower, the Holders of corresponding slips being partners. The prize, a black leather belt, was awarded to Mr. Giant Van Keuren, with Mrs. L. Burgess, for having the greatest number of answers correct; while :he consolation prize, a large stick of pepermint candy, was awarded to Mr. Dlin Welch and Mrs. F. J. Watson. A vocal solo was rendered by Mrs. W. S. Gilland in her usual charming nanner, the piano accompaniment being played by Mrs. E. A. McDowell. A. quartet was sung by Mrs. W. S. Gilland. sapuvo, Mrs. E. Partners for refreshments were secured by drawing corresponding numbers, and block cream and cake were served. Cigars were provided by the chcughful host. Instrumental music was furnished it intervals during the evening by Miss Julia Hall. The entertainment committee was :omposed of Mrs. L. A. Van Keuren, Mrs. J. D. Britton and Mrs. B. M. Montgomery. The refreshment committee consisted of Mrs. A. C. Swails, chairman, Mrs. R. K. Wallace, W. C. Olairborne, W. K. Mcintosh, D. A. Montgomery anil E. C. Epps. Old time songs were sung and enjoyed by all until a late hour when the guests departed, after many expres- ' sions of appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Burgess for their kind hospitality.
