Con- 1 gress has carried over fiom last session a bill which every woman will j want passed, for it provides a way to i save America's babes and their moth- < ets. i America is not a safe country for , babies. Every year 125,000 babies? < one-tenth of them all?die before thty J are six weeks old. In 1916. 16,000 . Amrican women died in childbirth; in ] 1917. 17.000; in 1918. 25,000. The 1 Federal Children's Bureau and th , Bureau of the Census made a house- t to-house canvass in typical sections ] of the country, and this information 1 is one of the results. Xoitce the figures do not decrease with the years. [ We don't seem to be learning! r The greatest waste this extrava- r gant country is guilty of is waste of \ her children. Thirteen other coun- 1 tries see that their women know how 1 to do a woman's work with safety to themselves and their babies, but in i America only twenty-three States f even trouble to register their births. \ There is a way out.
