The time for early planting of peanuts is now at hand, and hundreds of farmers in lower South Carolina have already decided to put in anywhere from 5 to 500 acres?a few, as much as 800 acres. They will do just as well in May, and even early july planting often makes a good crop. If putting in a large acreage it is better to spread the planting, so as not to have them all mature at once. Harvest time is when you need most labor. How to Plant: Plant flat in 2Vi foot rows. Lime and fertilizer will j pay well, but are not essential. Plant unhulled seed 5 or 6 inches apart, using 60 to 76 pounds per acre. Plant shelled peanut seed about 4 inches apart in 30 inch rows. This requires ? about 40 pounds of shelled peanut seed per acre. We recommend and can furnish, the Appomatox planter ? for shelled seed.
