May 3. at 11 o'clock, found elsewhere in this issue. o BIDS ON COUNTY LOAN OPENED Wee Nee Bank Proffers $80,000 For . Five Years Without Interest In accordance with the recent act of the General Assembly authorizing > the County of Williamsburg to borrow $80,(*00 to be applied on road construction and other public improvements, local banks were notified by , the Countie's Attorney, LeRoy Lee. Esq., that bids on such a loan would he received and oDened for acceptance or rejection on Tuesday, April 20. Letters proffering the loan were submitted by F. \V. Fairey. cashier of the Bank of Kingstree, Mr. E. C. Epps, cashier of the Bank of Williamsburg, and by Mr. W. W. Holliday. 4 cashier of the Wee Xee Bank. The Bark of Williamsburg offered \ to loan the county $80,000 for five years at the rate of per annum, with the proviso that all the counties J financial business be transacted ~ through the Bank of Williamsburg during the life of the loan. The Bank of Kingstree proposed to make the loan at the rate of 2Cc per j annum, provided that the county gave , the bank its entire business during the term of the loan. . * The letter from Mr. Holliday offered the county $80,000 without interest, provided the Wee Xee Bank be given the counties entire business during the term of the loan, five years, but did not require that any funds now deposited in other banks ^ of the county be transferred to the j Wee Nee Bank. The County Commissioners met in ~ special session Tuesday to open and v consider the above bids. The proposition submitted by Mr. Holliday of the Wee Nee Bank will doubtless be accepted, as it will save the county ^ from eight to fifteen thousand dol- lars during the five years it has the ^ use of the loan. o New Candidates. Report Shows Building & Loan As- j sociatinn in Fine Shape. j I The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Kingstree Building & Loan Association was held Monday night, April 19. The reports made by its officers showed the association to be in a * splendid condition. The report by the j auditing committee was also submitted and approved. The president, secretary ar.d trees- ? urer of the association were author- ] ired by the stockholders to close the J Fifth series by cancelling all bonds and mortgages and the issuing of ^ checks to all non-borrowers who have _ stock in the series. ^ Directors were elected as follows: A. C. Hinds, W. H. Carr, W. T. Wilkins, E. C. Burgess, H. 0. Welch, R. D. Mills. The Board of Directors 4 then elected as officers A. C. Hinds, . president; W. T. Wilkins, vice presi- . dent; W. H. Carr, secretary and treas- " urer. Members of the appraisal com- 1 mittee for the ensuing year are J. A. Kelley, W. T. Wilkins and R. D. Mills. It was shown that the association had nearly 2,300 shares now running and it was decided to open its 9th series, beginning the first Tuesday in ; ^ May. Mr. W. H. Carr, who has been secretary and treasurer since the organization of the Kinstree Building & Loan Association, January, 1905, has shown wonderful success, and in ^ his anual report stated that the association never made a bad loan or lost a dollar in all its dealings. This is a remarkable record, and speaks well for both the management of the f ?
