Two Senators and four members oi the House of Representatives have de clined to accept the extra pay vote< for the legislators by the recent Gen eral Assembly. The Senators ant Members have dubbed themselves ii a few cases, "conscientious objectors.' They opposed the appropriation of ad ditional pay for legislators during the General Assembly session, and thej take the position now that they do nol feel justified in taking the extra pay checks. They have returned to the clerks of the two branches the checks sent them as "overtime." It is understood that Speaker Cothran and Representatives Mower ol Newberry, Meares of Fairfield, and Buchingham of Aiken, have returned their extra checks. Senators Johnstone of Newberry, and McColl of Marlboro, are the members of the upper branch who saw fit not to accept the money. o NOTICE. The annual reunion of the Souti Carolina division of United Confederate Veterans will be held in Sumtei May 5 and 6 according to genera orders issued recently by David Card well by order of Maj. Gen. W. A Clark, commanding the South Caro lina division. The first session of the conventioi will open in the Sumter court hous< at 10 o'clock in the morning of May 5 each camp being entitled to one dele gate for each 12 active members The principal speaker of the conven tion will be Thomas G. McLeod, form er lieutenant governor of the State who will address the convention a noon on the first day of the reunion The sponsor of the division is Mi si Henrietta Boykin of Sumter, whil< the matron of honor is Mrs. Waltei C. White, also of Sumter. The pro gram of social events will be announc ed by the Sumter committee in chargi of arrangements for the conventioi while the schedule of business meet ings will be announced by the com mander as soon ac arranged.
