Little Miss Mary Elizabeth Dove celebrated her fifth anniversary Tuesday afternoon, by inviting a number of little friends to her doll party. Up to January 25 there were ginned in Williamsburg county of the 1919 crop, 26,509 bales of cotton as j against 31,226 on the same date in 1 1918. Mr. V. E. Cox, of Hemingway, j Route 2, was in town Tuesday to pay j his taxes and incidentally called at The Record office to renew his subscription. Latest information is that KingsI tree is to have a large tobacco curing : plant ready for operation this coming season. If this is tiue work will be begun on the plant without delay. Dr. Chas. K. Hurts, of Columbia, 1 and general secretary of the 75 mil! lion campaign recently held by the Southern Baptist, will preach at the BaDtist church here Sunday morning and night. The County Teachers association will meet next Saturday, February 7th. at 12 o'clock at the school auditorium, Kingstree. All teachers of the county are urged to attend as there is much business of importance to be considered. Karl, of New Canaan, Conn., one of the largest Buick automobile distributors in the country was a guest of "Deacon" John Burgess last week. It was Mr. Karl's first trip South, and he is highly pleased with cfWinn of South Carolina and the open hearted hospitality of our people. We felt that it would not be pertinent to ask if he could kill birds, after the Deacon had told us about Mr. Wolfel's prowess with the gun. The Newbury Realty and Auction Co., sold here yesterday the lots advertised in The Record last week as the Logan-Hemingway property on Mill street, for Messrs. S. J. ifeery and Harry Britton. owners. The sale was a success, judging from the prices the lots brought. Those in charge of the sale seemed to know their business thoroughly. The band was composed of exceptionally good musicians. A meeting of Kingstree business men was held a few nights ago in the interest of the new hotel project. At the meeting Mr. Dutft, a well known hotel man of Darlington was present, and as an outcome of the meeting, it is probable that this very important proposition will materialize into something more than hot air. Kingstree certainly cannot expect to press forward and keep pace with sister towns without an up-to-now hotel. Mr. Fred J. Wolfel, president of the New Kngland Artesian Well and Water Supply Co., of New Canaan, Conn., who has been spending a few weeks with Mr. John Burgess, on his annual hunting trip, left last Saturday for home. He reported having had a most delightful time here with the "Deacon" who informs us that Mr. Wolfel comes nearer getting his lawful limit of birds "than all the rest of the Northkiinfovc u'Kn tn this pom munity." Mr. Wolfel has been a regular subscriber to The County Record for more than ten years, and before leaving for the Nutmeg state Saturday, paid our office a visit and commended The Record in very appreciative terms. Serious Accident at Cades About 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon Dessie Flagler, a young man about 24 years old, engaged in a garage at Cades was seriously if not fatally injured at the railroad crossing at the Cades depot. Mr. Flagler was driving his car across the track when it was struck by an extra North bound passenger train. It is reported that there is little chance for his recovery. Music Recital at Lake City Tomorrow, (Friday) evening at the School House Lake City's music lovers will be given a chance to enjoy a splendid evening of entertainment. The entertainment will be in the form of a music recital by artists of note, known all over the country for their ability. Miss Nelson, a Charleston girl, )?ut now of New York, where she has been connected with some of the leading studios and where sne cnarmed her audiences, has a voice of singular beauty and pathos.
