The United States experiment station at Beltsville, Md., and at a number of other stations ! have conducted numerous tests during the last year on feeding fishmeal to hoes. In every case results have shown a feeding value equal to tankage, pound for pound with every class of swine, says D. W. Williams, extension service animal husbandman, who recently had an opportunity to visit the Beltville station and the fish meal factories. In ;he South we have been especially favored by having forage crops available at every season of the year. Without pastures and forage crops we could not successfully compete with the corn-belt farmer in the production of hogs. At the same time it must be borne in mind that the cheapest and most rapid gains are made when concentrated feeds are used in connection with these forages. Corn and tankage or fish-1 meal in the proportion of ten to one fed tc> hogs on forage will pay the feeder a higher price for the corn than he can get in almost any other way. Considerable tankage has been used in the South but not nearly as much as should have been. It has been a very difficult matter to get this feed and prices have been very high. A number of dealers will soon J be handling fish-meal and the price | Ml I * A AAA AA A 1 i. I will DC aDOUt ^yu.uu per ion or auoui $10 or $15 a ton less than tankage, which has about the same protein analysis. Too many feeders use corn alone: for feeding hogs. This is especially j a bad practice in feeding breeding animals, as too much fat is produced and not enough frame and muscle. However, even in finishing hogs H um i LUCKY STRIKE cigarette It s toasted to increase the good, wholesome flavor of the Kentucky Burley tobacco.
