Neavelin is a fine little man for his

Miss Marian McFadden has returned
from Murrell Inlet where she
has been on a house party given by

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Nesmith left
Monday morning on an extended
trip north. They expect to be away
about four weeks and will visit some
of the Canadian summer resorts and
other places .of interest before returning
here.
The long dry spell was broken
here Tuesday bv a light rain fall
during the day, which developed into
a downpour during the night, and
continued pretty well through yesterday.
It came in time to be of inestimable
value to growing crops.

much distressed by being somewhat
closely confined to her home as the
result of having run a small needle in
her foot Tuesday night while playing
about her room. The needle was
a very small one and broke off in her
foot, where it still remains.
Mr. Boyle Singleton and his mother,
Mrs. Chas. H. Singleton, left here
Tuesday morning in their automobile
on a trip to their old home in Kentucky.
Mrs. Singleton has Steel and
Anm'a T.aurip. her two voungest chil

away several weeks. Mr. Singleton
accompanied them as far as Sumter.

The editor of' the Record was de-,
lighted a few days ago to receive a
card from L. H. Cromer, Jr., containing
a picture of himself as "Private
Pete" and the announcement of his
safe return with the 324th infantry.

Mr. M. R. Gass. who will manage
and operate the Gorrell warehouse
here during the tobacco season which

McCutchen, H. 0. Welch, W. R. Scott
and H. E. Montgomery, all well
known citizens of the community.
Prof. J. F. Hodges, Y. Secretary in
after war work for State, will hold
a meeting at Bethel A. M. E. church
here tomorrow (Friday) at 11 a.m.,
and 9 p. m. This work is in the interest
of white and colored people. We
especially invite our white friends to
be present and also to speak. Mayor
Gilland and others will be there.

To Build New Home
Mr. W. E. Xesmith one of Kingstree's
enterprising and substantial
citizens _has closed a contract with
Mr. Chas. H. Singleton contractor
for the erection of a two-story
dwelling house on his lot adjoining
the public school property and W.
V. Strong. The building will be a
combination frame and brick work,
the outer walls being of pressed
brick and when completed the structure
will be one of the best and handsomest
in this section of the State.
Plans for the new home were preparde
by Mr. Singleton, who has already
placed orders for material to be used
in its construction. We understand
that work will be commenced at once
on the building and that it is to be
ready for occupancy by the last of
the present year.
Mr. Nesmith has recently sold, his
present residence to Mr. W. H. Carr,
the builder and original owner of the
building.

is nearly double what it
should be. It would be cheaper to
have your paper and trash cleaned
up entirely off your property and
that none is left after unpacking
goods than to have this trash accumulate
and cause you to pay more
insurance, and may be, not be able
to collect what insurance you carry
in case of a fire from your negligence.
These are facts worth attending
to at once. The town cart has no
more right to go behind your store
than it has to clean up the back
yards of every negro in town. You
move your wood-boxes so why not
your paper.
