UNION NI6N SCHOOL. ; The commencement exercises of the Union High school were held on Thursday,Friday and Sunday of last week in the school auditorium. The commencement this year is said to have been the best in the history ot the school, and the vast crowds that I attended the exercises proved to the on-looker that the people of the community had the interest of the school very much at heart. On Thursday evening.exercises by elementary grades, consisting of a flower drill and a fairy play, "Midsummer Eve." The little folks deserve to be commended for the way in which they carried out this program. On Friday evening the class day exercises were held, after which Dr H N Snyder, president of Wofford college, gave a splendid address on "The Stone Age Man." immediately after this address the president of the class of '17 presented a thermo bottle to Prof 0 M Mitchell as a toonnoAAiotmn f rnm alouonth ! tCLI U1 a^picvianuil livua v i iv v IV fvwvti grade for his faithful work during; the past years. Mr Mitchell then presented the following graduates with State high school diplomas:?Misses Lena Had-, dock, Anna Cribb. Lottie Waldron, J and Ellen Thomas: and Messrs Llew- ^ elyn Pope.Barnie Williams. Winifred Godwin, Du Rant Rhem, Martim Owens and Clifford Eaddy. Mr Chandler, chairman of the board of trustees, spoke a few appropriate words on this occasion. We are glad to note that we had with us at this commencement, both of our County Superintendents of Education, namely. Mr McCullough, of Williamsburg, and Mr Doar, of Georgetown. The following received medals this commencement: oratory, Du Rant Rhem; expression, Mabel Chandler; 8th grade Latin Medal, Baker Wilson; 4th grade spelling, Guss Haddock; 3rd grade spelling, Francis Snow; spelling in primary room. Manning Thomas. On Sunday morning Dr Daniel, of Marion,preached the commencement ermon; again, on Sunday night, he delivered a magnificent lecture on "Anglo-Israelism,"provingto us that we are the direct descendants of the lost tribe of Israel. Both of Dr Daniel's discourses were appreciated and enjoyed to the fullest. ' The Union High school has done a great work in the past and we hope in the future she will continue in this great work of uplifting the youth of our community. Items from Spring Gully.
