SPEAKERS AT THE FAIR. Governor Manning and Senator E D Smith Engaged. Governor Richard I Manning will be in Kingstree on Wednesday, November 8?Everybody's Day at the Williamsburg County Fair, when he will address the people. An effort was made to have Governor Manning address the people of Williamsburg upon the opening of the fair last fall, but a prev ious engagement prevented him from being present. The Governor's address will be well i worth the hearning by every farmer i - ? ?* ?r 1 in this county, lor Mr manning is; essentially a farmer, and a most sue-, cessful one. He is interested in the agricultpral progress of the State and he will have something interesting to tell us. Thursday, November 9, designated i as "Farmers' Day," Hon E D Smith, another favorite "son of the soil," I whose most ardent efforts have al-1 ways been directed towards the im- i provement of agricultural interests j of his State, will be present and speak to our people. ! I ICUiKCUitr luow uvi vmwim, .... w ? | Johnson, Jr, had died at his home in j Georgetown. He had been in a crit- j ical condition for weeks, and his death had been momentarily expected. Mr Johnson was 24 years of age i and is survived by his parents and , three brothers. He was a young man of rare promise and highly esteemed wherever known. He was a nephew of Mr D B Young of Mouzon and had many relatives in this and other counties of South Carolina and in Florida,who have the sympathy of a host of friends in their sorrow. With the Women's Clobs. The Civic club and Library association met in the school house Thursday afternoon and took up the regular work for the year. Reports were heard from the court house square, depot and library committees. The court house committee was instructed to ask the court house authorities for permission for the children to play on the fcreen. A request from the Parent-Teacher association ' for the use of the see-saws, etc, from the Kellahan playgrounds at the school yard during the winter was refused.as the damage therefrom would be so great as to render the play ground apparatus unfit to be moved back in the summer. It was decided to buy five pecan trees to replace the young oak3 killed by the storm at the park. The depot and court house committees will begin at once to beautify the places in their charge. Death of Mr. J. A. Green. Lake City. October 18:?After an illness of a few days Mr J A Green succumbed tonight to an attack of pneumonia. The funeral services j will be held tomorrow morning at j the Methodist church here. Mr | Green came to Lake City about 35 j years ago. The society meets every Friday afternoon at 2:30. So far, we have had two very interesting meetings.
