While neither the inventor not
officials of the coroporation would
say what price was paid for the
green fluid that turns water intc

received $1,000,000 in cash and
y 100,000 shares of stock in the Maxim
Munitions Corporation. This stock

NEW COUNTY MOVEMENT.
Lake City People Want a Change
?Much Opposition.
The matter of Rutledge county is
'; again before the public andinashort
while the voters of a large section of
. j Florence and a small section of WilI
liamshurg, probably.will be asked to
say if they want a new county established,
with Lake City as the county
seat. This is the same project that
I was defeated some years ago, after
which the Lake City section went
( over into Florence county, but it was
never thought that they meant to do
j more than take up temporary residence
there. There are two factions
in the section that is asking or is to
be asked to form the new county?
one in favor and the other, a large
one,opposing it very bitterly, chiefly
I on the ground that the taxes will be
too great for a new county to near.
[ The people of I>ake City are very
I anxious to have the new county
r formed and will work hard for it.
The matter has not gone far enough
yet to call for the survey, but the
people are being sounded as to their
sentiment in the matter with the
* view of running safe lines.

Resolutions by Darlington Covention.
Whereas, Honorable Julius S McInnes,
a citizen of Darlington coun- '
ty, has announced his candidacy for
Congress, and
Whereas, for the past two years
he has served this county faithfully
and with signal ability as a member
of the General Assembly of South
Carolina, and
Whereas, he possesses those qualities
of mind, heart and character
which would make him a worthy
Representative of this district in the
Hails of Congress, and
Whereas, he enjoys the confidence,
esteem and affection of his own people,
* .
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved,
That we, the Democrats of Darlington
county, in convention assembled,
do hereby most heartily ana earnestly
indorse his candidacy, bespeak for
him the warm support of the voters
of this county, and unqualifiedly
commend him to the voters of the
Sixth Congressional District. ,
The foregoing resolution was offered
at the Darlington county
Democratic convention on Monday,
May 1. 1916, by E Mclver Williamson.
the originator of the "William
son Corn Plan." Mr Williamson, in
offering this resolution, paid a high
tribute to Mr Mclnnes, dwelling upon
his success both as a farmer and
as a lawyer; said that Mr Mclnnes
was accustomed to hard work, rather
than to luxury, and stated that
he knew of no crime which could be
charged against Mr Meinnes more
serious than that of youth. Similar
tributes to Mr Mclnnes were, paid
by Messrs George E Dargan and D
T McKeithan in seconding this resolution,
and high praise was bestowed
upon him by Mr W T Harper,
with whom Mr Mclnnes served in
the House of Representatives. Mr
Harper said nat there were many
occasions to test a man's metal dur
ins ins per mo cu in?ir service ui uit
Legislature, and that, to employ a
current phiase of the day, "Mclnnes
was always there with the
goods." The resolution was then
unanimously and enthusiastically
adopted by acclamation.
Mr Mclnnes made his first venture
into politics two years ago, when he
was elected to the House from Darlington
county, receiving the high?st
vote in a field of seven candidates.
Darlington county will give
iim practically a solid vote in the
coming primary and, from the flattering
encouragement which he has
received from eyery county in the
district, his friends confidently exsect
his election to Congress. * *
