The conference was formally opened by Bishop Denny. Porter Charlton, the American convicted in Italy of murdering his wife and sentenced to six years and eight months' imprisonment, was released Sunday and will return to America. By reason of the time that Charlton had been under restraint and an additional one year taken from his sentence under an amnesty, he served only 29 days after his conviction. Charlton killed his wife in 1910, placed the body in a trunk and threw it into Lake Como. OF LOCAL INTEREST. Some People We Know, and We Will Profit by Hearing About Tbem.
