of the old school bell at nine
o'clock Thursday morning, Septem|
ber 30, about eighty children fell
t] into ranks. There were a great
| many patrons and friends present,
1 among whom were: Messrs W E
i Snowden and G Ollie Epps, who
H made speeches appropriate to the
I occasion. The latter offered a medal
Iio ir e pupil, in tne advanced grades,
who should make the most improvement
during the ensuing year; while
Mr Snowden offered one to the
child in the intermediate grades
? making the highest average. The
school is very grateful to these
gentlemen for their expressions of
i?3 interest, which will, no doubt, serve
t as an incentiue to more earnest eft
forts on the part of the teachers as
| well as the children.
9 School opened last session with an
I enrollment of sixty-four. This year
| ninety-one were enrolled the first
| week. It is useless to say that this
f enthusiasm is deeply appreciated,
I and we trust that great things .

Yes! J J went on a deer drive
with the Judge last Thursday. It
I, was in the early morning of a day
\ that was fraught with forebodings
of rain and a siege of inclemency.
At the peep of day, all the hunters
were on their stands with positive
instructions to keep quiet with the
peeling off of the eyes. J J's eyes
were more than doubly skinned with
most vivid lightning playing around
their balls and sockets. Excitement
was at its highest pitch. His fever
ran to its limit, with heart beats

1 birds began to collect in the tree

j J looked up at them until he could
J stand it no longer. His neck seem|

two blue jays; bang again, and down
I at his feet came six more, another
j bang and down came eleven more;

1 ninety-seven blue jays hit the leaves.
