KINGSTREE TOBACCO MARKET. 150,000 Pounds Sold Opening-Day Prices Going Higher. The Kingstree tobacco market opened Thursday of last week. It is estimated that 150,000- pounds were sold, the bulk of which was bought in by the warehousemen, as there were only two or three representative buyers on the market that day. The tobacco offered for sale was mostly ground lugs, or inferior grades, and under normal conditions would have brought very little more than was paid Thursday, as at present there seems to be but little demand for low grades.. Since the opening day sales have been small and up until yesterday the opening prices seemed to prevail. Yesterday, however, the market brightened up and prices generally ranged higher, from 5 to as hinrh aa Ifi ppnfe thft lflUpr ficure be ...6w ^ ~aj ing paid for an exceptionally good grade, but nothing extra as compared to our best grades later on in the season. This rise in the market is attributable to two causes, viz: better tobacco and more buyers. Attending the sales yesterday were noted the following buyers, gentlemen representing the largest tobacco dealers and manufacturers in the world: Messrs J S Jenkins, Imperial Tobacco Co; Henry Wood, Jr, Export Tobacco Co; M C Ferrell,American Tobacco Co; W K Medernach, Liggett & Meyers; J C Coleman, Dibbel Bros; T E Martin,Martin,Hughes & Co; T E Person, Person, Garrett & Co. andtMr Faulkner,Faulkner &Co. Besides these, axnumber of independent or individual buyers were on the market, and while the quantity j of tobacco offered was small, bidding was spirited and prices ranged higher than at any time since the opening sales. All our warehousemen are strictly on the job and doing all they can for their patrons. They are experts in the tobacco business and are as competent to judge the value of a pile of tobacco as any of the buyers are.which qualification enables them to force each buyer to his limit if fie gets the goods. In addition they , are each provided with an expert auch'nnppr And ritrht here let us sav ! i from our personal knowledge that the four auctioneers on the Kingstree market are known on all large leaf tobacco markets in the United! States and are recognized as among the very best of the:r profession. They are: Messrs Lee Hopper, Gorrell's new warehouse; F E Boone, Central warehouse; George Bass, Morgan's warehouse; and the doubly ! famous Johnny Reb Drake, Nelson's warehouse. Each warehouse is also well equipped for handling the weed i promptly and properly; their office | forces and floor managers are pains- j taking, competent and efficient. Lastly? When your tobacco is ready for the market bringit straight to Kingstree, the best tobacco market in the State. ?< f Benefited by Chamberlain's Liniment "Last winter I used Chamberlain's Liniment for rheumatic pains, stiff- < ness and soreness of the knees, and :an conscientiously say that I never ' used anything that did me so much good."?Edward Craft, Elba, N Y.
