MASONIC CELEBRATION?JR. O. U. A. M. FLOURISHING-PERSONAL MENTION. Scranton, June 29:?L e b a n o n Lodge, No 48, A F M, celebrated the birthday of St John the Baptist last Thursday, June 24. Appropriate exercises marking the occasion were carried out, a sermon and a picnic being the main features. The Masons here were indeed fortunate in securing Rev T G Herbert, pastor of the Central Methodist church of Florence, to preach the annual sermon, which was delivered in the Baptist church at 11 o'clock to an attentive congregation. The speaker impressed his auditors by his earnest sincerity as he exemplified his subject, "The Call for Steadfastness", choosing Biblical characters as forceful illustrations to carry his points, applying to not only Masons but also to other orders, the church and laymen. The address caused much favorable comment. At high noon everybody was invited to tables (under spreading oaks) that fairly creaked under the great variety of the season's delicacies. including a large assortment of cakes anil pies, iced lemonade, Irish potatoes a to French fried, et al. * " > ^ Alter tne Dounieuus le^ast uic Masons and their ladies assembled in the lodge hall, where the wives and daughters' degree was conferred upon a number of the fair sex. Inspiring addresses were made by Rev T G Herbert, Messrs W P Gauss. J B Prosser and others. He writes that he will probably study dentiscry. In his letter he describes the Hawaiian Islands in an interesting way to one here in South Carolina. Will quote from his letter later. Howt is the esteemed editor's condition? It is earnestly hoped by his many friends that he will soon be back at his desk, where he fits so well. IMG.
