In a few moments an unexpected misfortune wiped out the only home they have known and destroyed the savings they depended upon to make their old age comfortable. The Dorwans lived in an old colonial house which had stood for over a century and in which one of the generals of the Continental army made his headquarters during the days of the Revolution. Mr Dorwan was a farmer. He distrusted banks and put all his money in a tin can which he kept carefully hidden in the house. The old couple went to a picnic among the trees at Glenwood. Evening came and they went home lightheartedly. They approached the house and then their old hearts stood still. Where the farmhouse had stood there were now only smoking ruins. Fire had started from some unknown cause and the havoc was wrought before they got home.?Brooklyn Eagle, ft M iviame re The - i .' i i | ffiRnfl hmI gyBT^ ^^t&llMWfSSy ELL, - , ,... . ." > kSb?-:?' First the northeast wind pushes the mosquitoes from the marshes upon Sullivan's ' Island. But the food there is unsatisfying, nothing but natives and soldiers being available. So the mosquito spreads its wings, and tacks over to Charleston, on a northeast wind, which is some feat, as the map shows. In Charleston there is choice mosquito food to spare. It is believed that the mosquitoes here now are marsh hens, so to speak. They are not indigent. Their bite is too vicious and they do not sing like Battery insects, at all. They just blow in and bite, like the rhinoceros. A change of wind may bring relief.?Charleston Post, They Make You Feel Good.
