White Oak, June 23;?The annual baseball picnic will be held at Mr C K Eaddy's place Saturday, July 4. The White Oak ball team has two engagements for that date, one with Sandy Bay and the other with Cedar Swamp. Everybody is cordially invited to attend and bring a well fill-, ed basket. The White Oak boys will furnish lemonade free. The date, July 4, is an important item to remember, but the "basket" is more so. We are anticipating much amusement and enjoyment that day and w.int all who care to, to come. The more the merrier. Rev W H Whitehead of Lake City preached an excellent sermon here Sunday afternoon to a large and attentive enmrreffation. He used for his subject the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. His illustration of the pleasures and sufferings of the two in life and after death was magnificent. Several visitors attendee; the service, among whom we noticed Messrs L B Lewis, Kingstree, J B McElveen,Cades, Clinton Baker, Hebron, and J M ftodgers and W K Wilson, Lake City. Some of our voters attended the Gubernatorial speaking at Kingstree Tuesday. More would have gone along but "Gen Green" has taken considerable territory since the refreshing.'showers came to his aid, therefore we have to kill hay while the sun shines, or it will certainly make "hay" when it rains. The tobacco crop is not very good in this section. Of course some farmers have'extra large yields. Mr W L Matthews has the finest average field your scribe has seen this season. He[|has at least seven-eighths of a stand and all very nearly the samefsize. Messrs Mcintosh, Hester and other tobacco warehousemen of Kingstree were noted in our bailiwick last WWK. Mr W E Fulmore had business in Kingstree Friday. Mr Billie Boles went to the county seat Monday on business. Mr J P Christmas spent Sunday with relatives near Central. Mr and Mrs Cullie Lee of Cowards! and Mr and Mrs Douglas Floyd of Central spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs R L Floyd. Mr E B Floyd has been seriously ill for a few days, but at latest report he is getting somewhat better. His mother, Mrs Sol Floyd, of the Hebron vicinity, is with him during his suffering. Secretary of War Garrison has withdrawn the invitation extended to the militia of South Carolina to participate in the manoeuvre camp to be held in Augusta, Ga, next month.
