Grand Jury Presentment . To the Honorable Frank B Gary, Presiding Judge:? The Grand Jury beg leave to hand you herewith their report. Indictments were handed to us as follows: True Bills, 15 and No Bills, one. We respectfully call the Court's attention to the fact that several parties have been convicted on two or more occasions for selling whiskey, and who paid the fine to the town of Kingstree. We respectfully request the Court to instruct the proper authorities to have an indictment brought by the State against the party or parties concerned at the earliest date possible. Complaints have come to us from various sections of Williamsburg county, mentioning the almost impassable conditions of the public roads: the Earle and Oak Ridge roads have been particularly mentioned, one used as a rural free delivery route, as in a bad condition. 1 We ask that the Road Engineer be urged to look after all of the roads and bridges that need attention. A committee of our body visited the county jail and found it in very good condition, with the exception of the need of connection with the City Water Works. The jail, however, was found uncomfortably cold this morning, without being heated. We recommend that an expert be employed to examine the county officials' books with a committee of the Grand Jury who will make a report at the next term of the \ court. It has been stated to us that the Rural Police will be discontinued K as we regard the effect that these officers have on crime and disturbances is for the lessening thereof,. we ask a continuance of the force in' this county.
