We sincerely thank the many friends who by their manifold kindnesses showed their interest and sympathy during the illness of our little one. Died, suddenly last Wednesday, November 19, Mr W Benson Evans, an industrious and public-spirited citizen of New Zion. The deceased was hauling lumber from Barrow's mill and died on his wagon. He was 56 years of age and took a great interest in the school of his neighborhood. The funeral took place at Npw Zion church Thursday. Rev Mr Sojourner conducted the service.? Manning Times. Monday was official salesday, but the list of property to be sold at public outcry was small and the attendance slim. The tract of X26.6 acres known as the S T Brockinton place was sold in compliance with a decree for sale and partition of onethird interests, each one-third being sold separately. The place was bought by Mr C W Stuckev for a ; total of $4,800, he paying $1,600 for each third. An epidemic of tramps and beggars seems to have struck the town last week. In one day six of these "wandering Willies" called at our , home and asked or demanded any, thing from a "hand-out" to a pair of walking boots. Six negro prisoners escaped from Laurens county jail Saturday night after mid-night, sawing their way through the bars to liberty. Congress closed the extra session, which began April 1, December 1. As the old session closed the Sixtythird session began without any excitement. The last two of the South Carolina postmaster nominations thus far made by President Wilson were confirmed by the Senate Saturday afternoon. The nominations in question were those of A C Thompson at Conway and J F Rickenbaker at Lake City, both in Congressman Ragsdale's district.
