Influenza, by the way, is the I English equivalent for la grippe. Mr A C Swails and Miss Lula Brockington are among those at-, tending the Pee Dee fair at Flor-j ence, which opened there yesterday. The streets ? of Kingstree were thronged with shoppers Saturday and all the merchants seemed to be busy, especially those whose ads were in The Record. He is one of the largest and most successful corn growers in Williamsburg county, having sold 1,000 bushels this year after supplying his own needs. Rev and Mrs L E Wiggins of Cope, S C, are visiting at the home of Rev and Mrs R L Holroyd this week. Mr Wiggins is a brother of Mrs Holroyd, and was recently married at Nashville by Rev Mr Holroyd. For the first time services were held Sunday in the Sunday-school room of the new Baptist church. The price is only fifteen cents and the author says that he wishes to place a copy in the hands of every school child. The editor has received a card from John Robinson of Cincinnati, stating that "there is no connection whatsoever, in anv manner, shape or form, between the so-called 'Robinson's Famous Shows' and the 'Old John Robinson's 10 Big Shows,' I which will probably visit this county later on in the season." The number of bales of cotton ginned prmr to October 18, 1913, as furnished by the United States Department of Commerce, is 619,720 bales for the State, compared with 540,319 for the same date last year. In our account of the homicide last week in which J Benj Dukes was shot to death we were somewhat misinformed as to the identity of the man killed, and also as to the place the shooting occurred. J B Dukes was the only son of the late Nun Dukes, instead of D M Dukes; a nephew of Mr Tom Dukes of Cedar Swamp, and not a brother. The shooting took in Manning instead of Alcolu. Among the prize winners in the News and Courier's "Booklovers' Contest," are noted Miss Augusta E Boyd of Salters Depot and Miss Agness Erckmann of Kingstree, who named correctly 76 and 75 titles, respectively,out of the 77 books represented by pictures in the contest.
