Board of Trade in that city, and he says it was one of the most enthusiastic meetings that he has attended. The business men of that town are getting together to advertise Kingstree as the best tobacco market in the State and they are going to do it in no half-handed way. They have already a cash fund in hand to begin work at once and they all join in it to make Kingstree a bigger and better market. When this is done they will want: to broaden the work and do a lot of civic advertising in connection with the city council and the Civic league. They expect it to cost something.but they are looking more to general 1.4. ~ A1 4.^ AApf rinrKf nniv results man tu tuoi n6i.k ..v.... There were a number of ladies at the meeting that Mr Morgan addressed and all were delighted, and they are working to secure the cooperation of the country people for their own benefit and expect to get them. Mr Morgan has been invited to return and address the city council on the necessity for this help. So interested were the business men that they went with Mr Morgan to his hotel and again met him at 7 o'clock this morning. They are in earnest about advertising the town. ?Florence Times of Saturday. ! " * Dancing to Destruction. A most estimable lady of Aiken has handed us for inspection one of Herbert Kaufman's editorials in the July number of the Woman's World. Like all of Herbert tvauiman s editorials, it is pungent and straight from the shoulder and singularly characteristic of his freedom from that false modesty which causes many failures to ward off impending menaces to the social order. The editorial follows: When I hear music to the "Turkey Trot," the "Tango," the "Grizzly Bear" and the "Bunny Hug," I can see the devil fiddling in the band. A few years ago the police interdicted stage exhibitions of aj , less gross character. Today, fathers and husbands and brothers "trot" unblushingly with mother and ^Qiirrhtorc onrl cictprs?the sriectacle is appalling. The mThuet is stately and exquisite; the waltz is poetry in motion: there is pure rhythm in the schottische and the polka; joy of living in the mazourka and shardash, and rollicking fun in the Virginia reel. But \ the "trof'and "hugs" and "tangos" are heritages from the bagnio?gifts of the brothel. . A strong-willed and clean-minded woman can at least restrain the impulses that must arise when her whole body is clasped against the sensuous swaying person of her partner, but the menace therein for the ignorant and irresolute of every age, is self evident. New York has gone dance mad. The Broadway restaurants are crowded nightly with "trotters" whose activity continues until the closing hour. Roadhouses advertise dancing for their patrons, and halls devoted solely to "trotting" and "rag ging" are being opened in all quarters. The seriousness of the situation is intensified by the sale of drinks; and between lascivious music, lustful dancing and liquor, the toll of dishonor is bound to be heavy. To make matters worse, many hotels announce tea-dances, affording opportunity for girls to elude the1 vigilance of their confiding and un- j suspecting husbands. Meanwhile, the devil fiddles and, smiles?business is picking up in hell.?Aiken Journal and Review. Can't Keep a Secret. The splendid work of Chamberlain's Tablets is daily becoming more widely known. Venters, June 16:?Elbert Allen, the infant son of Dr and Mrs E A Simmons of Hemingway, died Thursday morning,June 12. His death was a great shock to the family and the entire community, since the end ^ came so suddenly. After struggling with the direful malady for only a few hours, the brave little boy yielded up his spirit to the ever guarding angels 9f the Almighty. Being in the home only four months and nine days, he had be come the idol of the father and the joy of his mother's heart. As the tiny bud is plucked from the flower to beautify the earthly home,so this splendid specimen of babyhood is taken from the loved ones to adorn the mansions beyond the skies. The interment took place at the Johnsonville cemetery, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev i P B Ingraham, assisted by Rev Mr Caldwell. While the hearts of these fond parents bleed at the loss of their child, yet it is only an incentive for them to strive on toward the mark and prize of their high calling, thus i to meet little Elbert on the blessed . *~v Jnliirnronno R J | 5UU1CS Ul UCliVUJ Olive.
