C Benson, December 30:?"All's ? 0 well that ends well," and thus it was with the "Old Maids' Club" that was opened to the visitors at the ap- 1 pointed hour last Friday evening in the auditorium of Cedar Swamp school building. The ladies inter- r <8ted, with the willing assistance c of some of our obliging young men who who thoughtfully offered their ' -services in arranging and helping to 1 Hp rate the stage with red berry J holly and other attractive ever- 1 greens, succeeded in producing a ^ very pretty and appropriate stage setting for the entertainment. When i the curtain was drawn the specta- 1 tors beheld a half score or more of our charming young ladies attired < as old maids organized for the explicit purpose of capturing a man. ^ The personnel of the club was as j follows: Misses Muriel Chandler, Hessie McCullough, Fowler Tisdale, Ervin McCullough, Beth McGill, Blanche Tisdale, Dolores McNeil, Ouida McCrea, Sue McNeil, Alma 1 Duke and Lector Parnell The for- 1 tunate young men who were per- 1 mitted to be on the stage with the "Old Maids" were: Messrs Will Mc- 1 Cullough and Wake Coker, both of ... ( - whom acted their roies very creau- * ably. The affair was a comic en- < tertainraent, causing much laughter and applause. A duet by ?isses Jessie Bethea and Ervin Mchillough, played on the piano with ruicar and violin accompaniments, leld the lovers of music spell-bound. 'Sicilian Chimes" was rendered nost effectively by Miss Ervin Mchillough. As a finale the "Old laids," all standing, repeated torether softly this "club verse": 'Man,man, man,catch one as you're told, Little man, big man, fat or tall? iachelor, widower, young or old? Just any kind of^a man at all." The evening as a whole was very nuch enjoyed and the play was luite a success. A charming little act entitled, "A Stitch in Time Saves Nine" also was gracefully rendered by three little rirls: Misses Fowler McCutchen, Sdith McCullough and Florence May Rembert. Miss Maud Chandler, who is teachng the "young idea" at Carvers 3ayt is at home for the Yuletide. Cadet Jack McCullough, of Clemson Collegers at home for Christmas. At Cedar Swamp church on Christ- i n as-eve there was solemnized a narriage ceremony by Rev J L Hullinix, pastor of the bride. The :ontracting parties were Mr J Barley Crooks, of this place, and Miss Jattie Parnell, a daughter of Mr W J Parnell of Zeb. Miss Thelma >ooks, sister of the groom, and Mr Lilian Parnell, brother of the >ride, were the attendants. The ihurch was beautifully decorated for he occasion. The bridal party came. n, keeping time with the lovely vedding march rendered by Miss 2rvin McCullough. The young couple lave many friends who wish them mooth sailing along life's journey. WES.
